Title: poor little cat
Post by: ronandcats on February 25, 2015, 19:56:26 PM
Poor little cat was taken to one of our Brighton vets as they thought it had been hit by car, the vet told them that it would have to have its back leg amputated and the cost would be £700. they told the vet that the poor little cat would have to have to be PTS, the vet got them to sign it over to them, when I heard  about it I rang them up and told  them I would take the little mite on if they would sign the cat over to me, when I spoke to the vet I asked if its leg could be saved but the price would be £I,500" the poor little cat was only 3 to 4 years old, so I told them to go ahead. it makes me so mad what vets charge these days"" anyway it all went well with the operation but when I  rang them to see how the little cat was doing they told me it had been shot with a air gun and it had shatterd the bones  >:( she is now at home with us and really doing fine I think it should be law not to have these guns. anyway I thought I would send some pics of the poor little girl.

update on Lilly, I  took her back to se the vet last Friday to have the poor little girls leg xray again, the vet was pleased with it and said the bones are healing well, he took three of the pins out but wants her to keep the brace on for three more weeks and see how it goes from there but is hoping to remove the other pins and take the brace off, so fingers crossed she will be out her cage for good and running around with all the other little cat here

Today I found out that my Misa has a giant pin in one bag leg runs from one joint to next and there are also wires!

The leg must have been very broken and it has been there for over 9 years cos I got him 9 years ago

poor little Lilly went to the vets last Friday and has to keep her metal brace on her leg for two more weeks   :( we thought it was coming off, but the vet said it needs another two to three weeks as the bone needs to thicken up a bit more, and not to let her jump about to much, so poor little girl is back in her cage, I tried putting her in my office but she was going mad to get out and I was worried she would hurt herself, its cost me £400 extra so far and she still has more visits to go yet, But I think she is worth every penny after what she has been through

sorry I have not updated you on Lilly, as I have been in Hospital, but while I was away one of my volunteers let little Lilly out of her cage to stretch her legs and they turned there back for a moment and she tried to jump up on top of the cage and fell and broke her leg again so was not happy when I got home and found out, I sent her back to the vet and we have had to have a plat put in her leg so poor little Darling is back to stage one again >:(, I have now got her indoors with me and am really making a fuss of her, she goes back to the vets again next week to hopefully have the stiches out again, God knows what they will charge me this time :-:

Oh Ron

I hope you are alright and poor Lily..........what a stupid person dodnt they have any sense.

I do hope she will be Ok and after being on rest she will have lost some of her muscle so any attempt to let her roam needed to be totally supervised and Lily woulodnt know she couldnt do stuff she used to.

Sending her the very best wishes and also to you, take care of yourself.

So hope she will be out of her cage then, she looks gorgeous  ;D

Just one day at vets for my Misa, bloods, xrays, drip, anesthetic etc to find out why he couldnt walk came to just under £1000! Thank goodness for insurance.

Turned out he must have been in a road accidenr most likely befor he came to me aged 4. His back right leg has a oin from top to knee and is wired and he now has acute arthritus in both legs, spine and top of tail and looks like he will be on metacam for the rest of his life as everytime I stop it he goes downhill very quickly.

He is now on just over 1 unit a day and only 14 in Jul!

She's looking great Ron.  :)

Horrendous expenses, both for Lily and for Misa, but we cant put a price on the love and delight our cats give us, which is why we'd always do the very best we can.  As you say Gill, thank God for insurance.

poor little

Lilly has got to wait three more weeks before she can have her brace off, shes been such a brave little girl I hope it is all worth wile this time its cost a  fortune, I think the vet thinks we  are made of money :-:

Lily is so lucky to have you. It's just horrendous what vets charge. I am sure nowadays a lot of them are just money orientated instead of thinking of the welfare of the animal. I just wonder how many pets are left to suffer, or are put to sleep because the owners cannot afford the over the top expensive treatment. A friend of mine was charged an extra £10 for a worm pill. She asked what the charge was for, and the receptionist said handling cost. All she did was put one pill in a pot. Also the pill wasn't handed over until the cat had been seen. So that one pill, plus consultation, VAT and handling cost came to a fortune. For a worming pill. No wonder so many of us are turning to buying pet meds online now. But of course for Lily's surgery, there is no other way than to pay expensive vet bills.
Julie.

:happy dance: poor little Lilly has finely had the brace taken off her leg, it been on there since February, she is walking fine but has a limp, the vet said once she starts running about her leg will get stronger but will always have a bit of a limp as she had to have a metal plate in her leg as the bone was badly shattered, she has been such a brave little girl, the next thing is to find her a really loving home, I would have kept her but she hates all my cats indoors, she needs a really quiet home with no children and away from main roads and be the only cat, I will post some pictures of her soon but she has to rest and not jump about for the next few weeks then she is back to the vets for the finale all clear.
