Title: Infected dew claw
Post by: Bryony84 on June 07, 2012, 21:01:36 PM
I've just been clipping Ambers claws and she was being so good until I got to one dew claw, I hadn't touched it with the clippers and she yowled in pain when I pushed the claw out ready to trim. Upon further investigation, there is a bit of infection around the claw, the skin is red and there is some yellow pus. Is there anything I can do for her tonight - I'll try to get her to the vets tomorrow.

We go on holiday on Saturday morning, although a friend is house and cat sitting so at least there will be someone to keep a close eye on her. They always do it when you're going away don't they!

If she'll let you I would try bathing it in boiled salty water (cooled obviously!). Hope it's nothing too serious, if she needs it the vets will be able to give her a long lasting antibiotic jab so your petsitters won't have to contend with tablet giving!
