Oh my gosh that is wonderful.  How lucky for him that he did not get hit by a car crossing two roads.   Did he have on a ID collar?  Is that how they were able to call you or did they see your posters?

I'm really happy for you....now don't let that cat out of your sight again! lol

Happy to report that I got a phone call today from a family who's house / garden John had wondered in to! He would have had to have crossed at least 2 roads to get there but thank goodness he's safe and sound back with his mate :-D thanks for everyone's good wishes over the last couple of days - has meant a lot!

I would suspect that he is close by but until you have a sighting you cant know.

Its important to do the things on the list asap and to keep pestering neighbours. Going out late at night and calling  is good too cos you maybe able to hear him meowing.

Is it possible that he has tried to follow you to your Mums house?

My heart goes out to you.  I also have a cat that has been missing since April 22, 2008.  He is micro chipped so I still have hope.  From everything I have been told and have read it is extremely important that you be proactive in trying to find your cat.  Don't just wait for him to return.  If he has been gone days now, there is a good chance he is not able to return if he wanted to.  Please knock on all your neighbors doors and ask them if you can check their garden sheds and garages, but really look good, because your cat may be getting weak now from no food or water.

I pray that you find him.

xx

When Fred went missing, I found the advice given at this site:

http://www.soyouhavelostyourcat.co.uk/

very useful.

Be proactive in trying to find your cat. Is he microchipped?
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

Asking neighbours to search garages etc may be helpful as we once found a cat in out garage that had must have been there a couple of days.

As the others said fliers, posters. Also phoning local rescue centres.

Are there any fields nearby that he may have strayed to.

It may be worth putting an advert in your local paper.

Wishing you all the best

Thanks for the replies so far :-)

I've posted fliers around the enitre block and have checked all of the neighbours....but one house, theyre on holiday.  Perhaps he got himself stuck in their garden somewhere but I obviously cant check :-S

One other thing.  The other cat that came with him from the rescue centre is obviously quite close to John (missing cat) as well and since he's been gone its not as if the other cat has been acting sad etc - he's still chasing dragon flies and rolling about all over the place.  It just makes me think that maybe he knows where John is and that he's ok.  That, however, could just be being overly optimistic, I'm not really sure!

My Mum looks after my cats for me when I go on holiday although she just pops in and out through the day. She often finds she won't see one of them for a couple of days, especially Bronte who isn't good at responding to calls from anyone other than hubby and I.

However, I would as the others suggested check sheds, garages etc as your mum's cat could easily have roamed off somewhere and become locked in.

Ask the neighbours to check anywhere (shed, garage etc) that he could have got shut in. Or cellars, if you have them in your houses, as cats are always getting stuck in them.  He could just be upset at his being 'abandoned' or the change in routine at home. Have you put up notices and flyers in the neighbour's letter boxes? Hope you find him asap.

oh and I've been looking after him. The thing is, the house usually has 6 people in it but now its down to just me - just thought that if the atmosphere's changed that much then he may have got confused / scared and ran off.

He's gone missing from his normal home - I've been looking for him myself - Just have a feeling that when my Mum comes home next week and calls him he'll come running back.....hopefully.

Sorry a bit confused but has he gone missing from his normal house where you live or is it where you are cat sitting?

If it is his own home, who is looking after him at present.

Please tell us more of the situation

I'm currently house sitting at our home....my parents are away on holiday.

Earlier this week our 2 year old male went missing.  He is one of a pair that we got from an animal rescue centre in the Springl and since then he has grown especially close to all of us, but especially my mum.

I was just wondering if its common behaviour for cats to run away and hide somewhere until their owner returns?  I've asked neighbours, checked the roads and called the rspca, cpl, council etc etc but no one's seen him.

He's been gone for 3 days now - I know thats not the longest time but I just wanted any general advice and / or reassurance!

Cheers in advance...
