Just got back, boys are not too well tonight but are back home.  Vet suspects its something they have consumed but is a bit concerned about Lubo who has vomited a small amount of blood (in his last vomiting bout), has swollen glands and a wee bit of a temperature - hes not dehydrated though.  Loki is also carrying a temprature and is a bit bleary eyed and the poor boy threw up all over the vet  :(.  Lenny (my big bear) is none the worse for wear really and was most friendly to the vet (even when she took his temperature and removed his dignity).

I need to give the house a good checking tonight though as its not confirmed it was the washing up water but there is nothing else obvious - I removed all plants, flowers etc when I got the boys, my home is well kitty proof so really struggling here . Whatever it is, Nova is unaffected (and Stitch too but she was outdoors most of today).  Would make sense if it was the washing up bowl as Nova cannot get up onto the sink as yet.

Vet suggested I check on them every couple of hours tonight.  They have all gone to bed now, very sleepy, my poor babies.

Thanks so much for your positive vibes and thoughts.  Will let you know how they are tomorrow.

Love from the Bengal Boys xxx

Linda so pleased they are back home even if they are still a bit under the weather.

Hopefully it was just the washing up liquid and the boys will be OK in the morning.

Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: CurlyCatz on January 03, 2007, 09:57:44 AM
this is most strange linda, esp after they have all had antiemetic injections, those are pretty good at stopping vomiting,  Just a thought, theres no way they've managed to get into a bin with old food or something is there ??  having said that most of the time cats arent so affected by "off" food like we are as their GI tract seems to cope better.  Another thoght i had was if stitch had picked up a bug or something on her outdoor travels and passed it to the boys but if she is 100% thats prob unlikely aswell.

Whatever i hope they get better soon, Lenny sounds pretty indestructable doesnt he.  Poor boys though, sickness is something we all sympathise with as it feels rotten whether you have 2 legs or 4 !!

Good luck at the vets, are you still off work anyways ?

lynn X

Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 03, 2007, 12:38:50 PM
OK, sorry for the delay in posting but have had to come into work for a few hours (aghhhh).  Boys were seen by our own vet this morning, he agrees with the diagnosis last night in that its likely to be something they have consumed but not washing up water (this would only have caused a little sickness, nothing to the extent the boys are suffering).

They have been given another anti-sickness injection and are now on Zantak orally.  No food and limit their water intake (this concerns me as I'm trying to strike a balance between this and dehydration!).  If not better by this evening back to the vets again.

They are exhausted wee souls and have crashed for some sleep just now so fingers crossed no more sickness.

WHAT ON EARTH HAVE THEY EATEN?  This concerns me most as I cannot find the source and am paranoid my babies still have access to whatever it was that caused this.

Hi Linda,

So sorry to hear that your babes are unwell and sending lots of love for their early recovery.  Bengals are quite delicate when it comes to their tummies though so it might just be that they are reacting more severely than another breed or moggie might.

On the subject of what they might have eaten:  Have you considered their paws?  Could they have picked something up on their paws and licked it off when grooming?  Have you been using anything on the floors? Or could they have licked some concentrated oils (like aromatherapy oils in concentrated form, for example..not likely I know, but some cats will do this...and these things are lethal when undiluted).

Or they might just have eaten something in their normal food that was not quite right.  Bengals are very sensitive and have a shorter digestive tract than other breeds so this can result in tummy upsets although usually the problem is at the other end...diarrhoea!

I hope they're bright eyed and bushy tailed again by tonight.

Lots of love

Roz

firstly dont worry too much about dehydration..they are all big healthy lads and even though they have been sick they wont be too bad, altho i'd prob just leave a bowl of water out coz to be honest if they are feeling nauseous they prob wont want to drink alot anyway.

has anyone bought you flowers / plants over xmas ?

have they raided a bin ?

what type of food do they normally eat ? if they have wet food did it smell funny or anything ?
Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on January 03, 2007, 13:01:19 PM
I would be worried about the no water thing as they have been vomitting and losing liquid and water, say mineral water or purified water shouldnt do them harm................my opinion only. If they get dehydrated they will have to go on a drip and there is chance of damage to internal organs.

Linda, I know this sounds daft but if the vet is saying its not the washing up water then all 3 of them must have been at something else, maybe something that is not there now as they have eaten it. Its something that your other cats havent touched cos they either couldnt reach it or the 3 boys had eaten it already.

So what, food, sweets, alcohol, plants, something just put down and forgotten about, something someone or cat brought into the house,  toy, christmas decoration or tree, something so tempting that all 3 boys had a go at it, serious brainstorming for the ridiculous needed, Where cabn the boys go that the others cant? Can they open cupboards or drawers or get into a room where they are not allowed. Check under furniture, beds, inside cupboards and drawers. look on shelves and in corners and behind things, in their bedding, somewhere they may have hidden something. What have you thrown in the dustbin or the waste in the last 24 hours.

Somewhere there must have been something that was big enough for all 3 to have a go at.

dont know if any of that helps but there must have ben something even if it is no more. One other thing is that they are being sick and do not have diarerah, to me that says poison, could be a liquid, do you have a medicine chest or tablet bottles, anything to do with car or cleaning round the house, soap.................maybe one of the vet nurses here can think of things that could cause this effect and whether the vet should be carrying out somekind of tests.

Do I understand that all three are affected to some extent?  That must mean it's something they all ingested - and while I was typing this, Gill has posted to the same effect.

Poor little mites.  Hugs to them.

Post by: CurlyCatz on January 03, 2007, 13:24:20 PM
yep i agree gill, been trying to brainstorm all morning LOL

re the water..yes its important for them not to get dehydrated but the vet has obviously assessed they arent at the mo and shouldnt hopefully bring any more fluid up due to the antiemetic and he obviously wants their stomachs to have a rest..like i said before i would leave a bowl out if it was me and not worry too much just now about that..they'll have a sip if they are thirsty but shouldnt be too mcuh to upset the stomach i wouldnt have thought

what an earth can it be..

has any food like stuff been vomited ?? or has it always just been the frothy water ??  if its the latter then that would suggest its not been alot of "off" food stuff they've had.

but what could they have licked that all 3 had, what about perfumes from a plug in or something, have you bought any screen wash / antifreeze ?

i was wandering about ingestable / foreign body stuff but for all 3 to have eaten something thats stuck would be  like a lottery win i would think.

if they are no better by tomorrow then i would have thought bloods +/- x rays would be needed esp since its 3 of them.

what about frontline/ wormers  or anything linda ??

sorry like gill thinking aloud really

Hope the boys are feeling better Linda.  It must be very worrying for you not knowing what has caused it.

Korky is hardly ever sick but he threw up during the night (on the floor at the bottom of the bed so I could walk in it - which, amazngly, I didn't).  He's right as rain today though, thank goodness.

Thank goodness for that! I have a soft spot for Tiggy because she reminds me of my first (long departed) cat Ginger.  Her struggles with CRF and Hyper-T also remind me of my bridge baby Tiny (who didn't die of either of those two conditions).

Now all we need is to hear that Linda's Bengal babes are also safe and well.  Fingers crossed.

Finally looks like we have managed to stop the sickness!!!!  Had to take them back to the vet again today as they were continuing to vomit and getting really weak.  They are all curled up together sleeping for now which is a good sign as they were dotted all around the house in seperate rooms earlier (wanting to be left alone I think). Next few hours will be crucial, they are getting a bit more dehydrated now and I've put water down and am encouraging them to drink.

Unfortunately no further forward on tracking down the source.  Been too busy with the boys and cleaning up as you can imagine.  I'm really knackered now and feeling quite teary.  :(  At least the boys have stopped being sick for now !

Poor lads. Hope they feel better soon, it's horrid when they are are unwell.

I know this won't be much help. but , if it was only one then in one way it would be more of a worry, with all 3 boys then is has come from the same source.  Hope you know where I am coming from, I haven't explained it very well.

Give the boys a hug from me xxxxxxx

Not long back.  All three were back at the vet this evening.  Lubo and Lenny continue to make some progress although Lenny seems to have a very bulky tummy which could indicate he has diarhhea (?).  Loki is not so good and if no better first thing in the morning is being admitted and will spend the day on a drip to see if this will pick him up.

Vet no longer thinks they have consumed something they should not have.  They now think its gastroenteritis (infection).

Need to continue to keep an eye on Lubo and Lenny and not give them any normal food - vet seems concerned they may relapse a bit if we try to rush their return to normal food. Loki is refusing to eat anything (even sensitive stomach food) and his last vomit (15 mins ago) was yellow bile only.  Not even sure if he has been to the toilet today so will need to monitor him closely.  :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Oh Linda - that is so sad.  I really feel for you - having one poorly puss is bad enough but three - you must be at your wits end.  Quite apart from the emotional strain it must be a logistical nightmare getting 3 cats to the vet at the same time.  My heart goes out to you and and the boys.  Sending positive vibes for an early recovery and lots of  to you all.

poor boys..sounds like loki might have to go in to be admitted in the morning but atleast if he does you know he's in safe hands.

has stitch been ok ?? i wonder if its something they have picked up from her, then again she is used to going outside so may have an immunity to bugs whereas the boys dont.

i'd be keeping a close eye on nova and wash hands etc before touching the little might,

hope the boys are betting tomorrow and lenny doesnt start with Diarrhoea too badly

Lynn, Stitch seems really well, no signs of anything at all being wrong with her.  Nova too seems fine albeit she is in my bedroom most of the time - poor wee mite, feel so guilty bringing her home, introducing her to the boys briefly and then shutting her away.  I've also not spent much time with her as I have been sleeping in the boys bedroom and looking after them.  Ashley has been keeping her company though (when she's not helping me!).

Boys have had more antibiotics tonight albeit Loki is reaching the end of his patience with the whole thing and seems really depressed (as well as ill).  He's not interacting with anyone at all (even ignoring his brother Lenny whom he loves and adores) :'(. Looks like another long night ahead.

I've been really lucky though, despite my claims they are all MINE (I'm a jealous mum), Kevin and Ashley love the boys loads and have been giving me loads of help by taking care of everything else whilst I concentrate on my boys.

Thanks everyone, I'm heading to bed shortly as exhausted.  Lubo and Lenny are continuing to pick up so thats good news but Loki seems to be getting worse instead of better  :'( He has just huddled himself away in the corner of the upstairs hall and is not responding unless you get down on the floor and speak to him.  He's not drank or went to the toilet tonight and is refusing to go to his bedroom with his brothers (which is soo unlike him as the three amigos love to be close and wail when separated). This is upsetting Lenny in particular who is shouting for his brother to no avail  :(

Looks like he will definitely be kept in the vets tomorrow and I'm so upset for my boy.  He's the best natured and my little one (ok they are all brusiers but you know what I mean!).

I'm expecting grief from work as since I went back on Tuesday I've not really been there any more than 3 hours per day and I'll now need to cancel an important meeting tomorrow morning to take my Loki to the vet which will go down like a ton of bricks.  People just don't get it, they don't directly say anything but I can see the 'its only a cat look' in their eyes.  Well they are not, they are my babies and besides my daughter, I love them most in the whole world and its mutual!

sorry to hear about loki linda, i am sure the vet will perk him up with meds and tx though..

re the work its a tricky one...i agree they should understand but them from an employer point of view i get their drift too...are you in a situation to lie and just say YOU are ill or something, might be more understanding if they think youve got the runs or something.

hugs to all the boys anyway.

Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 04, 2007, 21:54:45 PM
Hi Lynn, I can see their point of view too however up to Christmas I was working 60 hour weeks at least and doing lots of travelling with no additional pay so I do expect them to come and go with me (even if from their perspective its just humouring me). Flexibility works both ways and I'm no use to them at work when my head and heart are at home with my furbabes (and Jan is a fairly quiet month anyway).

Sorry if it sounds like a rant, I'm emotional as you can imagine!

Rant away! That's what we're here for.

I, like you, have a job that demands a lot of my time, and being at home this week I have gone from feeling guilty for not being there (chest infection) to being thankful I have a few more days before I get back into it.  But I still keep trying to tell myself its just a job.  Not easy!

Regardin work, i know how you feel; When Minty had a flare up of conjunctivitis i had to rush him to the vets first thing, so i rang work and let them know i'd be late and they laughed at me. I went mad and hasten to say i rarely speak to that person anymore... You have to do what best for your boys and work will sort itself out i'm sure.. Wish i could come round to give them a gentle cuddle.

well no linda you are right, perhaps a little reminding of the hours you put in wouldnt go amiss ... ie I am taking this time in leu of all the many hours extra i did pre christmas !!!

hubby has been like that many times but usually his work are not too bad for them having the odd extra day off here and there if need be.

if he's still gonna being sick every hour or so linda i'd perhaps ring the vet back tonight...the meds clearly arent stopping the sickness and he may get to the stage now where an iv through the night would be good !!!

if he'll get you what are his gums like ?? ie are they shiney and moist or dry and tacky ??
if you life the skin on the back of his neck right up and let go just it immediately spring back to normal or slowly slide back down ??

Lynn, gums are not too dry and his skin is rolling back down but not too slowly (seems the same as at the vets tonight). Was squealing when I picked him up though - he is really quite sore around his tummy.
Going to put my head down for an hour or so and will keep checking him until morning or will take him to emergency vet sooner if required (unless he is unconscious they seem to be asking me to wait to see my own vet - thats what they did at 5am yesterday morning!  They wont get the option next time I have to call!)
Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: CurlyCatz on January 04, 2007, 22:55:55 PM
well he sounds  defo no more than 5 % dehydrated poss even less than that so thats good.

emergency vets can be like that, just coz they dont have any records of the cat and if they admit he'd then need transfering to your own practice in the morning, its a pain but where i used to work we shared on call with 3 other practices which for the most time worked great (far better than some storys ive heard on here) but yes there were occasional blips. (they shouldnt be too reluctant to see him if absolutely nec though)

have any of the trio passed faeces yet since this all started ??

hope you get a wee bit of sleep, i am sure he'll be ok its just affecting him more than the others.

love to loki (and you XXX)

How are the boys today?  - It may be better if he is kept in for a day or two. So they can keep a close eye on and get that drip into him so he can get some fluids before he dehydrates.

Zak was in a few days on a drip and the little monkey pulled in out - TWICE.

I do feel for you Linda, love to the boys and little Nova too. xxxx

Loki was admitted this morning and is now on a drip to get some fluids into him.  His condition did not improve and he actually looks worse today as he is so exhausted, he's even struggling to stand and walk.  He is having full bloods run today and I've got to phone around 2ish today to see how he is.

He's not been to the toilet in 24 hours either but I guess nothing to pass through given he has not eaten and been vomiting since Tuesday.

Lenny and Lubo definitely on the recovery path. no sickness now in 36 hours and continuing to eat the sensitivity food.  My problem with Lubo at the moment is he is sooo greedy he wants more BUT he cannot have anything else or it could start him off again.  Lenny knows his brother is really ill.  They have never been separated.  He is wailing continually and searching the house for Loki  :'(

Hi Linda,

I'm really sorry to hear that the boys...well Loki at least...are not very much better.

I've just read some of the texts and my advice would be to ask the vet to keep him in for a few days.

If you have a good veterinary hospital, they will take all the tests necessary and put him on a drip....you can go and visit him in the evening...but if there is any real problem they will notice it and he will be in the best place for emergency treatment.  Obviously this sickness is more insidious than most of us realised initially.

I hope the poor little love starts to feel better real soon.

Lots of love to him

Roz

Try not to panic too much it might just be like when you ring the doctors at hospital for info and the nurses can only tell you so much. Have emailed you.

When I went to the vets to collect Jaffa's blood test results (full senior blood panel) a few months ago I had to sit in the waiting room for over an hour waiting to speak to a vet.  Neither the receptionisht nor the nurse was allowed to give me the results - I had to speak to the vet.  There wasn't anything wrong with the results but only the vet was allowed to explain them to me!  So it's perfectly normal.

I do hope he picks up though.  And poor Lenny missing his bro.

often it will be the case that he is receiving all the treatments at this stage they feel is appropriate and if any tests have been done the vet may not have sat down and made his diagnosis or planned the next course of action..even if the nurse has her owned informed diagnosis or knows what the vet is thinking He may have said he wants to talk to you personally.

i wouldnt worry, if there was something to really worry about they'd be phoning you !!

but fingers crossed here and lots of positive thoughts for loki.

Loki is looking a bit better tonight, having spent the day on fluids.   ;D  His blood results are also back and all is well with the exception of his white cell count which is high - this is to be expected as he is fighting infection.  He's had more antibiotics and was allowed home for the evening.  He will go back to vets first thing in the morning and if need be back on the fluids again.  More good news is that he has not been sick since lunchtime today and whilst he is refusing to eat, its such a relief!!!

He's also mobile this evening albeit poor lad is hobbling around - one of his legs is bandaged as he still has his 'line'for fluids incase it is needed again in the morning.

Lubo and Lenny are doing ok too albeit I think it will be a while before they are eating normally. Lubo even turned his nose up at a small amount of chicken tonight which he normally loves.

I feel we are turning the corner after a long long week!!!!

Thanks everyone, Loki has eaten a little chicken tonight but his stomach is not quite ready for it yet and unfortunately he chucked it up - was surprised the vet suggested offering it to him but guess they know best.  However instead of getting upset about it I need to focus on the fact that being sick once in nearly 12 hours is a vast improvement!!!!

Vet has not really said anymore about the boys sickness other than its an gastroenteritis infection...............don't think they really know anymore than that to be honest. I'm sure he will get more antibiotics tomorrow at least.

As I said, even Lenny and Lubo are not really eating properly yet (still on small amounts of sensitivity food) and it looks like it will all just take time.  The main thing is to stop the vomiting as its this that is really making them suffer.  They have all lost a bit of weight though.

Loki is not too happy with me tonight (no cuddles for mum  :(), he out of the three truly hates the vets and the fact he has had to spend the day there has made him really grumpy.  He does not really like strangers too much unlike Lenny who would go home with anyone

Will update you all tomorrow. Thanks so much for being here for me and the boys xxx

Mixed news this morning I'm afraid, Lenny is pretty much back to normal albeit bored and looking to cause mischief  :)
Lubo is not great, he is refusing to eat again and has really bad nausea (he seems to be gagging a lot but not actually being sick).
Loki is the same as yesterday, not eating or drinking really so he is back at the vets for the morning on fluids.

I asked the vet what he really thinks is going on and to be honest they are a bit stumped.  Bengals do have sensitive stomachs but nearly all the stomach problems, infections they are prone to involve diarroeah which the boys have not had.  Vet has suggested that if they do not improve over the weekend then we are looking at a referral to a lady who specialises in bengals and their sensitivity problems (including vomiting). He seemed very enthusiastic about her so at least we know we have other options.

Anyway,  I'm off to scrub the boys room out - not sure if it will help but am determined to beat this  :censored: infection they have!

Loki came back from the vets at lunchtime.  He's still the same and has spent most of the afternoon sleeping on my lap and by my side so he has forgiven me at least.  :Luv:

I've been given some different food to try him and Lubo with - Hills AD.  Lubo has eaten a desert spoonful out of my fingers (not wanting his bowl) so its a start and I just hope he manages to keep it down.  Loki point blank refusing but will try him again later (Lenny therefore decided to eat Loki's for him, how kind  :innocent:)

I've been given some antibiotics to give him orally between now and Monday as well as advised I must syringe feed water (small amounts) if he does not drink. Vet also suggested diluting the Hills AD and feeding the same way but we'll see how it goes.

I have the emergency vets number between now and Monday if needed otherwise its back to the vet on Monday to discuss options and referral.

hi linda, was gonna mention a/d in my last post then thought the vet maybe didnt want then on it coz its got quite a high fat content but to be honest i think a/d is wonderful stuff and never usually a problem. you can heat it up abit to make it more palatable and you can if necessary syringe it without diluting it first, its just abit trickier to get into the syringe, depends what size of syringe you have i guess.

one tip though is dont use/heat up more than little bits at a time as if its left out of cools after its been heated it can get abit crusty and yukky.

i guess with lubo if he's still struggling to eat by tomorrow you might want to perhaps get a tin of sardines in tomatoe sauce and just try putting a wee bit of the sauce etc on top and see if that stimulates his appetite, ive used this very sucessfully in much older invalid patients with no untoward after affects so i dont think its too harsh on the gut, i wouldnt give him a tin mind you, just to stimulate his appetite with the smell and a little taste.

also if you can get a/d into loki it has a good bit of water content aswell if water is also a problem..can you think of what loki likes to drink out of ie the other day i had a couple of peeled but uncooked tatties sitting in a just of cold water and cody drank loads of water out the top (??? he liked the starchyness ??) (oh and no he wasnt meant to and we wont tell michael coz they got a quick rinse and then chopped into chips for michael ) but things like that to just to get him interested and also not to be at him every 10 mins coz that will make him tired and even less interesed.

good luck with the poorly boy tonight.

Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 06, 2007, 17:42:31 PM
Hi Lynn, whats the best way to heat the AD?  Thinking this might be more tempting for Loki - is it microwavable and if so how long?
Lubo has just eaten around a third of a can of the stuff so I'm pleased that he's enjoying it and has eaten something.

In terms of water, Loki usually drinks out of the fountain so not sure what else..................will have a think about it.

I mix a bit of boiling water in with it to make it warm and sloppy. If you heat it in the microwave then make sure to mix it thoroughly and make sure there are no heat spots before giving it to them.

Aww, things are sounding more promising, fingers crossed tomorrow is better. I swear by a/d, it is wonderful stuff for sickly and thin cats - wouldn't have thought you would have much use for it though Charlotte. I prefer to heat it with hot water, you are getting more water into them that way.
Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..

hiya,

yes its microwavable, just needs a couple of secs but yes warm water would be fine..the way i like it no mixed with water is because when they lick it a very thick coating sticks to their tongue so i feel they sometimes get more that way wheras mixed with water not so much stays on the tongue and they need to lick more to get the same amount..but hey --- anything is better than nothing !! so do what is best for you and will make the little mite eat something !!

Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: Team Svartalfheims on January 06, 2007, 20:12:58 PM
wouldn't have thought you would have much use for it though Charlotte.

Tigger was a very fussy girl when she was little about what she'd eat and wouldn't eat very much so the vet gave her some to have a few times a week and she suddenly developed an appetite after that, YAY! I always keep some in the house in case either of them are ill and refuse to eat plus various other uses I'll have for it later in the year.
Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: Desley (booktigger) on January 06, 2007, 20:15:55 PM
Ah right - I didn't think you would like to use it with the high fat content in it.
Title: Re: fingers crossed for our bengal boys..
Post by: Team Svartalfheims on January 06, 2007, 20:21:46 PM
Ah right - I didn't think you would like to use it with the high fat content in it.

As I say it now only gets used if either of them are poorly and won't eat (so since Tigger has got a proper appetite it hasn't been used at all lol) and Tigger only used to have 2 tins a week for about 5 weeks before as the vet advised it might help her get a bit more of an appetite. The high fat content is useful for some things such as getting condition back onto a cat and weaning kittens etc as well as illness/accidents.

End of another day.  Not as frantic here tonight as everyone went for a nice long sleep and no-one was sick  ;D
The a/d has done the trick with Lubo and he has eaten well tonight so really pleased with this.  He has not been sick either so hopefully he will be feeling a bit better tomorrow.
The fluids seem to have perked Loki up again too albeit he is refusing any food.  I did however see him take a big drink of water tonight and he too seems to have kept that down so I'm going to leave him be tonight and try on the food front again in the morning.
Lenny continues to go from strength to strength and was actually playing tonight and jumping around like a loony for his fishing rod - he's definitely much better  :)

Lets hope tomorrow sees Lubo much better and Loki starting to eat.  Goodnight everyone x

Good new today, all three boys continue to improve albeit at different stages.  For Lenny, its all a distant memory, for Lubo, he is eating well again today albeit still the a/d and a little boiled chicken but is alert and bright.

Loki totally refusing the a/d, so as of an hour ago I steamed a tiny amount of white fish and hand fed it to him.  He ate it !!!!!  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:  So just waiting with baited breath now to make sure he keeps it down.  He also voluntarily drank from the water fountain this afternoon which is excellent and saves me upsetting him by using the syringe to give him some fluids.  He has not been sick for 24 hours now  ;D

We will be taking him back to the vets tomorrow evening (unless he deteriorates any in which case we will go in the morning).  Will keep you posted but looks like all the postive vibes are definitely working  :)

Excellent, I am so pleased for them all!! Sometimes vets give Hills I/D - the packaging says it has stuff for rapid relief from vomiting and diarrhea - it is completely different from A/D and RC sensitivity (in gravy) - maybe it would be worth trying them on that?

Thanks Desley,  I'll ask the vet tomorrow as Loki will not eat either the Hills A/D nor RC Sensitivity (we have both).

Just somewhere to let of steam I think, its so frustrating. I was so happy last night as all the boys seemed good (ok, not totally well but definitely heading that way).  And I feel guilty coz I gave poor Lenny a row last night later on for fighting with Lubo who was absolutely not in the mood.

I feel emotionally exhausted Kittybabe.  Thanks for listening x

Hi Christine - Lenny def off colour, the poor boy is hiding behind the curtain in the diningroom.  He's normally a big purry baby, no real change in him, still being a bit sick.  Spoke to vet, just to give him the Zantak for now and take him later if it doesn't improve.  He hates zantak, it makes them foam at the mouth poor boys x

Hi Linda,

You haven't visited somewhere with cats recently have you?  Or introduced another kitty into your house?  Just wondering because this sounds so nasty and it occurred to me that you could inadvertently have brought a virus into your house from some other place...and one which your little boys have absolutely no immunity to....

I hope the poor little guys recover from this soon....they must be feeling so weak by now...You must be all in too.

Also because this infection is proving very hard to kick. try to ensure that they take every bit of their medication...the whole course.  I'm sometimes guilty of not finishing the whole course with my own cats if they seem to be fit and well again very quickly....... and I always like to keep a few tablets spare in case of emergencies...but this infection sounds like you are going to need to administer the complete course, if not more.

Big cuddles to them all

Roz

Loki is looking fantastically good tonight, he's been playing with his toys and has eaten his dinner (he was starving poor boy!).  Lubo is also doing well albiet a little grumpy (but then thats Lubo!).  Lenny is actually not too bad this evening and has not been sick since teatime tonight so fingers crossed its just the last hurdle.

The boys do share absolutely everything and have since they were wee - food bowls, beds, litter trays etc.  The only seperation was when Loki was in the vets on a drip at the weekend!  I've thrown out all their current food bowls and replaced these (just in case), washed all the bedding and absolutely scrubbed their bedroom.  I'm really loathed to separate them but do hear what you say and if things do not pick up in the morning then yes it sounds like my only option  :(  Vet has not suggested this up to now.

Roz, I have introduced Nova (female bengal - 16 weeks) into my household - Christmas Eve to be exact.  She has had 2 brief false start introductions. One because we discovered she had conjunctivities and the second one the evening before the boys took ill.  I have discussed Nova's entry to the household with my vet (who has checked her over) but he seems reluctant to accept that Nova has infected the boys as she is not displaying any symptoms - I've kept her isolated anyway so not sure what others think.

The other theory I explored was my rescue Stitch.  She has been with us well before we got the boys but I wondered whether or not she could have picked something up outside (she is an outdoor girl) and brought it into the house?  Again vet seems quite dismissive as Stitch is fighting fit.

When we picked Nova up we did go to the breeders, is it possible that although Nova is not infected we could have carried the infection back to the boys?  She is a fairly large breeder with a number of cats although I would add we did not make any physical contact with any of them but were in their presence.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hey everyone, no more sickness, must be official as no-one was sick at all yesterday or this morning  :)  Boys are also all eating well.

Unfortunately we now have 3 bengal boys with the runs - could this be because they have not been eating properly for a week and the food is now hitting their stomachs, oh and of course all the antibiotics as opposed to another phase to this blasted infection?  Hoping so!

OH had to vacate the premises last night, the smell was so bad - poor boys!

I'm so glad they seem to have turned a corner and be on the mend.  Fingers crossed they're done with the vomiting.  You might want to give them a probiotic to help with the runs - probiotics are often recommended for a short while following an infection.  I've just started Jaffa on Lacto B and it's firmed up his poos nicely  ;D

Glad the boys aren't being sick any more, shame its now coming out the other end though  ;)

It could well be the antibiotics, not sure whether they affect animals the same as humans, but I know that after my last course of them I had an awful tum, I suffer with IBS anyway so had a horrid time.  I'm guessing as the boys must have very sensitive tums at the moment anyway after all the sickness and lack of food, it could be the same thing?

Give the boys some headrubs from me and Max, and hope their botties are better soon ! xx

Was only in an hour tonight and the litter tray had to be cleaned 3x.  Lenny seems worst and is squirting everywhere its awful and really does stink.
Never really saw Lubo go tonight so suspect main culprit is Lenny who never had the sickness quite as bad, a little is Loki and not much at all is Lubo.

I've turned green with all the vomit and now their botties    The nausea is awful.  BUT the boys are much better in themselves, they are eating, playing and fighting again which is all in a days work for the bengal boys.  I'm so grateful they will all be well again.

Have ordered some of the probiotic stuff so hoping that will help, I may also give my vet a quick call tomorrow if Lenny is still the same.

The end is in sight, I'm so looking forward to normality and eventually letting Nova out of my bedroom (poor baby!).  Cannot believe I'm managed to stop either her or Stitch being ill with this,

Thanks so much for your continued good wishes and support

Seriously though, hope the pro-biotic stuff works for them, they must be pretty sick of it themselves too by now.  I've always wondered why diaorrhea smells so bad compared to 'normal' motions which aren't exactly pleasant to begin with?!

Oh Linda, I have not been on site for a bit due to been busy studying work stuff after starting a new job.

So sorry to hear the beutiful Bengal Boys have been not well. Must be a difficult time.

Ollie and Tyler are sending love and purrs to them and hopefully they will be all better soon.

Take care xxx

Crikey Linda only just catching up with this and what an awful time you have been having hoping that they are well on the mend now...normally find that upset tummy's mean that they are getting rid of it..

Big cuddles your way to Lenny, Loki and Lubo xx

Evening all  :)

Well, things are definitely improving here.  Yes, botties are still a little smelly but not nearly as bad as the last couple of days.  Loki has been playing, Lenny annoying Lubo & Stitch so all is pretty normal again  :evillaugh:  I reckon we might even get some photos from the boys this weekend to celebrate their recovery!

Soo glad my babies are nearly there after a week and a half of this dreadful infection.  Must say though this week has been much better than last week despite the smell!!!

Love

Linda & the Bengal Boys xxxx

Thank goodness the boys seem to be back to "nearly" normal.  Hopefully now you will be able to spend some quality time with Nova and Stitch after those monster boys have had your full attention for the past week or so  ;)  Typical boys .... will do anything to get their mummies fussing over them!

Looking forward to the pics of the family :)

So glad to hear that things are looking better now for the boys Linda!

You must have the patience (and stamina!) of a saint to have dealt with all that puke and now poo too, lol!

Hope things keep improving so that you can all have some quality time together!!!  ;D
