Another tragic case of owner not caring less...
There is an 18-year-old male in Mapperley, Nottingham, due for PTS in 4 weeks. The owner is moving and, yes, you've guessed it, 'can't take the cat'! What an age to get to only to be disregarded by your owner. So far I know the following:
He's called Sonny
18 years old
Neutered Male
No health problems, but the nurse who's told me about him said he's felv/fiv neg, and she'll run a geriatric blood profile to check liver/kidney parameters.
She's emailing me some photos as soon as she has some, so I'll update and post them. Breaks my heart that this old boy is going to be uprooted and moved and scared to bits because of an owner who can't be bothered... She said to the nurse he needs to find a home or she's going to PTS him. Of course, she obviously can't be bothered to search for a home herself...
Anyone who can help, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Liz xxx

Poor old boy, nowadays some people don't seem to care about living breathing things, all they care about is themselves. >:( I could never imagine my oldies being in that situation -17,16,15 year old.

Poor boy :( Really hope a home can be found for him

I think there should be a law against pts your pets for reasons such as this, if you own a pet you should continue to do through thick and thin, you can't discard your kids can you!!
-
TOTALLY agree... it is so frustrating and sad when a poor animal has got to such a fab old age only to be discarded... through thick or thin, I would NEVER give mine up, and I have a menagerie of 20-odd animals!! This common excuse of 'I'm moving and can't take the cat' is what some people believe to be a genuine reason and a way they feel justified in getting rid of their animals. I don't care what anyone says, there is almost always a way of ensuring your animals stay with you. And if you can't keep them, you work your pants off to find a good home... :'(
Just hope we can sort this little guy out. Sill waiting for pics, so I'll post when I can.

Hi
I am a newbie on here but after reading about Sonny the 18 yr old I had to register! I would love to give him a new forever home! I love older cats and this story broke my heart... I do live an hour and a half away but would be quite willing to pick him up if you think he would cope with the journey. I can offer him lots of love and a roof over his head (albeit a small one). I have had cats before (or should I say they have had me).
Anyway if you could let me know if this is a possibility and I look forward to hearing from you, someone xxx ;) :thanks:

Hi Lisa, and welcome! Thanks for being interested in this old boy. Below is what his owner sent the nurse who's also helping save this old boy received...
We were told nearly three years ago that, like his sister, he also had kidney problems. She sadly died 18 months ago and we believed he would follow on soon after. As it turned out, his kidneys are fine ! He has a very mild heart murmur, a slightly over active thyroid so he eats regularly for a cat of his age and has a touch of arthritis in his hind legs. While the arthritis makes it hard for him to groom his hind flanks, it doesn't impede his movement and he is still perfectly mobile (still chases his tail from time to time!)
When beginning plans to move out of our house about 18 months ago, our backup was that our neighbours would take Sunny in the unlikely event that he was still here ( then believing his kidneys were failing). They have since taken in a pregnant stray cat and adopted her with one of her kittens - and are no longer be able to have Sunny.
We therefore find ourselves in the difficult situation of needing to find him a new home. He is a friendly, affectionate old boy and we will miss him sorely, but there is regrettably a no pets policy in the flat we are moving to.
A couple of pepole have offered a home to him, and I'm not sure if he'd be best as an only boy or not, I'll try to find out.
I will update the forum when I get more info. After the upheaval he's got coming, I am sure this boy will be so glad to be safe with a loving owner for his remaining time...
Thanks everyone! :Luv:

Is Sonny sorted now?

No 100% sure yet... the nurse who knows the client giving him up has spoken with 2 different people who offered him a home, so will see if I can get an update. I'm hoping so...

I think the nurse has this all sorted now, but I'll email and check. She spoke with 2 possible adopters, and she said there was almost definitely a home now.
I'll update as soon as I get a reply from her...

This is what I got via email from the nurse...
"He had a potential home with Lisa, but his current owner managed to find a home on the same street last minute so it worked out ok for him, thanks for all your help :) "
So, this is now sorted. Thank you all SO much for all help and advice, and from the 2-people who offered Sunny a home. So relieved it ended well for Sunny... :Luv:
Thanks again... this thread can now be closed...
