My cat passed away two weeks ago, and I would love to offer a new home to a kitten or older cat - I could take two if they preferred to be re-homed together.
There are no other pets or children in my home, so a new family member would get my undivided attention.
Sami was a much loved and very vocal Siamese & the house is very quiet without her.

If you look in our cats needing homes section you will find some needy ones wanting homes.
I dont know if we have any in your area, do you drive?
A home check would most likely have to be done but this can often be arranged through other rescues.
The alternative is the rescue section on Cat Chat our sister site and if you go to the bottom of any purrs page you will see the big logo, click on that and you will pop through to Cat Chat ;D

There are lots of cats and kittens needing loving homes and I'm sure you'll find the perfect one for you. As has been mentioned have a look at some of the deserving cases in the cats needing home section (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/board,61.0.html). Transport runs can usually be arranged if there is any cat out of your area that like.

Thank you. However, I do not have a catflap - is there a standard CP viewpoint on this?

Branches do vary on this however there are always indoor only cats to be considered if that were a problem! ;)

Have you heard of or been told about the cat flap issue already? Would be worth checking out your closer to home choices first with having no transport! :hug:

Do you work fulltime? If not i cant see them being able to turn you down over a flap. The problem lies with people shutting them out all day and night, not far different from being a homeless stray is it! If your out alot then consider fitting a flap or having an indoor cat/one who wont mind being indoors comfy whilst your out and having a garden trip when your home. Good luck ;D

Hi - I did look at the CP Salisbury site, but their "news" is from January this year, which makes me wonder how up to date the site is.
I tried calling the number today, just to make some initial enquiries, but got an answerphone & I have an irrational dislike of leaving voice messages!
I had heard from a friend that the lack of a catflap might be a problem but I can't remember if she was told that by the RSPCA or CP.
I work full-time so would probably keep the cat safe indoors during the day. I work close enough to home to be able to pop back at lunchtimes, at least during the settling in stages.
Thanks for all your feedback - just planning it and talking about it is getting me very excited!

Not having a flap shouldn't be a problem as long as the cat has a litter tray. You would be amazed how many people expect cats to "hold it in" all day or night >:(

We adopted our girls from RSPCA in Hampshire and it wasn't a problem that we can't have a flap (rented maisonette, landlord said yes to cats but no to cutting a hole in his front door, lol). We shut ours in rather than out if we aren't at home, but they have 2 litter trays. They get let out for an hour or so most days but they tend to wander around for half an hour and come back in!

You will find most Cp branches use answer phones especially at weekends cos they are all volunteers.

You have to remember that on this site "Purrs" there are so many reputable rescue's with cats/kittens for adoption with full bills of health and all there vacs etc already done....
Although this cat through your link is lovely (as they all are) you really dont know the history plus a ped with no papers is classed as a moggy anyway! ;)
No one can stop you if your mind is made up, but there are lots on here to choose from really.....Its up to you though when it comes down to it! I would be tempted to ring your local CP (leave a message if they are busy they will get back) and ask your queries with ref to the cat flap etc...

Not bothered in the slightest about papers, just looking for a new friend (or two)! A mum & daughter combo would be fab.
I have always been a bit tomboyish, but I really felt a strong bond with Sami.
I take your point about the clean bill of health etc.
I think I'm just a bit excitable! I've gone from thinking "No Way, Never Ever Again - I can't take the heartache" to "ME! ME! Pick ME!" in a matter of weeks!

the going rate for a Russian Blue is around £350 - I would be very surprised if this mother cat is one, as an unspayed Russian is worth a lot more than £30, even without papers - is there a photo of her, and if not, why not?

Regardless of whether its a ped or not i'd like to add that not all mums get on with their daughters once they are bigger ;) so do keep this in mind when deciding!

The £30 was for 2 reasons really. 1) To try and recoupe some pf the money spent out on the kittens (frontline and wormer etc, its not cheap!) and 2) to ensure serious homes only.
Also, for the £30 I will include some food (so it doesnt upset there tummys if you change there diet) and also a kitten size litter tray/scoop.
If you would like them both then you are welcome to come and see them anytime tomorrow.

Just wanted to let you know that the people who had one of Roxy's babies contacted me and said they would like to take Alice too. They are very kind people so I have let Alice go to them to be with her sister.

I realise there are "adoption fees" or equivalent charged by most rescues, by the way. That to me is not the same as "buying" one. :catlove2:

Papers or not - it sounds to me as if that little one could really do with being taken out of that situation and into a loving home !! How can the stoopid woman offer her free and then expect some BYB not to use her as a breeding machine.
Can anyone help this little one???

I just get the feeling she's not being honest. Why does a 3yr old cat all of a suddenly need to be removed from a situation where she doesn't get on with the other animals?
Or is that more common than I'd think?
On a different note, has anyone any here any experience with Purr Love Cat Rescue?

the only good thing is that there are very few Russian Blue studs around, and she is not pure RB anyway, so I doubt anyone will be able to make money from her
if she can be seen in her current home, and seems to be healthy, I expect she would make a good pet for you, though it sounds as if she may not be particularly affectionate

Hi. I have been contacted by Siamese cat rescue about a Siamese who has been living as a stray and is currently in Chippenham. Her foster mum would be pleased for me to take her - she is about 8 years old. However, I don't drive and the lady is not confident of driving the 35 miles from her to me.
Can anyone offer assistance/suggestions? I will check back here later tonight.

My Sami was siamese - I really miss our chats! I think I ended up talking "in cat" more often than not!
I asked the contact at the agency if she wanted to do a homecheck, but she was happy for me to arrange everything with the fosterer, who says she can't drive out to me.

That'd be a *very* expensive taxi ride! I'm racking my brains to think of people I knoe who are cat-lovers and can be cajoled into helping me collect this lovely girl. She was taken to the vet yesterday, and was found to be spayed but not chipped - guessed age of around 8. I've been e-mailed a pic - she's beautiful!

Thanks for being interested!! No, unfortunately I didn't manage to sort out any transport, so as far as I know she is still looking for a home.
However, a lady contacted me about 2 kittens (1 boy, 1 girl) in Southampton & she is happy to bring them to me on Monday! I'm so excited!
They are both wormed & de-flead but not innoculated or neutered. (I will be taking care of this asap - I see lots of people referring to "vouchers" on here - can I get those or do I have to be in receipt of benefit?)
The boy has an eye deformity, which I don't know too much about, but I still think he's gorgeous!
How can I make .jpg attachments smaller?

You can use photobucket and not resize or you can use this very neat little freebie programme that you can download and I use all the time.
Pictures no bigger than 600 pixels on longest size will get most things small enough ;D

The lady thinks they're both chocolate point, but apparently the colours can be quite changeable while they're little. I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to call them! I hadn't been thinking of boys names at all.

Any ideas about his poorly eye? The lady said it doesn't appear to be causing him any discomfort, but I was wondering if anyone here had seen anything similar?

Ahhhhh they are gorgoeus :Luv2: :Luv2: Can't offer any advice on the poorly eye but I would get him to your vet ASAP so he can be chekced out.
With regards to the neutering vouchers you need to contact your local Cats Protection ... sorry not sure what the restrictions are - but I'm sure they will advise accordingly.

Ok, i think your leaving yourself wide open for trouble, they should be fully vax'd before leaving mum no earlier than 13weeks and full information on any health issues should be fully disclosed with their vet history. If he turned out to have entropian for instance this could easily run into hundreds for surgery and thousands over the next 15 years, you wouldnt get insurance cover for any eye problems.
I think they are gorgeous but please please think carefully :shy:

have to say too it's against all the rules to have kittens brought to you - you should be able to visit them in their home and see their mum
nor do I think a respectable breeder of Siamese would be in any way unsure of the type the kittens are

Kitty I dont mean to be patronizing at all, so apologize if it comes over to you like that.
Purrs peeps between them have so many cats and so much experience and we have seen some of the problems caused by bad breeders and others who are determined to push sick kitties onto others who are desperate for a cat.
We also know that unless you go and see the kittens and find out exactly what the situation is where they are coming from, you may even then be hard pushed to find out the truth.
To be very very blunt, it sounds like you are not very rich if you need neutering vouchers and you dont drive. You will not get insurance on that eye as someone else has said and how will you be able to afford the treatment?
You have to be very realistic here and I know you are desperate for a cat but it has to be one in a locality close to you where you can go and see it before taking it on, or where CP will transport you to look at their cats as my Cp did for me, cos at the time I couldnt drive either.
It sounds like you need a cat who is already neutered and has been vacinated, fleed etc and yes there will be a donation needed and a home check. If you are trying to avoid these then this is not good for your future care of the cat.
All kittens and cats without homes need one but its very important that they go to the right home, all kittens and cats do not fit with every slave. These kittens already have a home with their breeder and if she is saying anything else, you know what sort of breeder she is!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So however cute they are you need to have enough finances to be able to insure them, feed them and look after them as they need.
I agree with who ever said that you are leaving yourself open for trouble and that there are warning bells here.
You need to be so very very careful and you should not rush into this.

I am so pleased you are going to see them and you really need to see a vet report on that eye.
Also remember that if she is breeding Siamese and they are pedigrees she must have papers for them which should pass to the new owner, they also should be vacinated and over 12 weeks old or they are not old enough to leave their mother.
you should also see the mother and the father if he is there and if not, ask where he is. Because if she doesnt know they are not siamese but moggies who look like siamese
If she starts making excuses , walk away however cute the kittens are.
You have to feel that she is absolutely open and above board and some can tell a good story. Pedigree siamese kittens would sell on the market way over £200 each just as pet standard, so if she is giving them away, there is a problem I am afriad.

Like MM and Gill have said a responsible breder should vaccinate for at least cat flu and enteritis BEFORE they go to their new home at around 13 weeks of age. Is she giving you the kittens or selling them - is she GCCF registered? If so, the GCCF would take a very dim view of rehoming unvaccinated kittens. I too, am hearing warning bells, I'm afraid.

Hi everyone,
I went to see them on Monday - the house was lovely (including an entire house extension devoted to a kittens play area) & her assorted pets (including adult cats, dogs & a parrot) all seemed well-cared for. I picked them up the following day & they have settled in with me really nicely - very snuggly & purry, eating healthily (though she warned me they might not) and playing together like mad things! I have named them Rocky & Lola.
However, I took them to the vet today as I'd noticed them sneezing, and they both have cat flu. :(
Apparently, there's no way the breeder would not have known this, and it is this which has caused the abscess on Rocky's eye.
I'm about to go trawling the internet for all the info I will need regarding cat flu, but I'm sure you will all be able to tell me what I need to know!
I'll post some pics once I've transferred them from phone to laptop. I am utterly in love with the pair & they are delighted with me, seemingly!!

Lola seems now to be having trouble with one eye, and their noses are runny (they weren't before).
The vet on Friday seemed convinced that they didn't need any treatment at this stage, and assured me that keeping them together would not further harm Lola. However, I'm not sure I want to wait until their next appointment on Thursday before I get them looked at again.
Am I being over-anxious?

The vet said on Friday that they both had cat flu. However, she didn't prescribe anything at that stage & now I'm worrying that she should have done?
They're both still eating well & alternating between sleeping & running around like lunatics - I'm just really worried that a delay in treatment might mean that we miss something we could otherwise have prevented?

Did she say why she didnt prescribe anything and at what point she would?
Maybe you should write down some questions and ring tomorrow and see what they say................cat flu can be recurring and at different levels and the worst could kill them.
They sound like they are not too bad at the moment so maybe they would fight it off but you need to find out the answers to these things from the vets so you are prepared cos we are not vets and can only give you guidence.
