Lovely update - thanks for sharing Daisymac.

Its interesting that Chelsea's kittens Dainty and Dodger are responding to the Zylkene.  I read somewhere that it in someway mimics the feelings that cats have when they are feeding from mum so only works in those that have had a positiveexperience with their mums which is not the case with Dainty and Dodger.  Obviously the article was wrong.

Here is the latest Paws Inn update,  hot off the press,  T sends them to me as she knows I love them, so thought I would share as I know she is missed.

Sophies kittens Skip and Selena went to their new home yesterday,
Sophie seems quite happy to be down to 5 kittens. Got a family coming
to select 2 kittens at midday but they will not be going to new homes
now until January.

Sunday 12th December
Another morning of struggling on ice to reach the summerhouse but the
cats are all warm and comfortable oblivious to the cold outside unless
of course they climb up and look out of the window.
Sat in kitchen watching young Sunshine  playing alone this morning,(her
litter mates had all gone to sleep) what a little star this sweet girl
is turning into. I realise I am far too attached to her already and its
frightening as I cannot give the long term commitment this little one
needs, the same applies to Dinky; as heartbreaking as it was when dear
Minimopsical died I at least no longer had the worry of her out living
me, now I fear I have a double worry.
Wednesday 15th Dec.
Debbie has been out in the summerhouse playing with the muckspots for
the last hour, her kindness has been rewarded by Chuckyegg who decided
to leave a 3inch long scratch down her face, have suggested she changes
her name to scar face.
Weighed Sunshines litter today, trouble is I didn’t have glasses on and
couldn’t read the scales but I am assured that Sunshine is now up to
800grams, Summer is just 2lbs, Sunny is 2lbs 6ozs and Simon has finally
taken the lead at 2lbs 8ozs. Sunshine has had as much fun as her litter
mates today kicking her little ball and dancing round the kitchen.
Had a call earlier to say how wonderfully well Melody had settled into
her new home, lady spent a good 15 minutes telling me how delightful
Melody is, I am just so happy that Melodies “time” has come and her
days will now be filled with the happiness she so deserves.
Looks like Lucy will need a trip to see the vet tomorrow, a large wound
has appeared where she had her vaccination, it doesn’t seem to be
bothering her but its over an inch in diameter so best to have it
checked out.
Thursday 16th Dec.
Lucy has been to the vet, Andy says it is a reaction to her vaccination
and one which he needs to report , he is not worried about it as it is
clean and showing no signs of infection, he has given an antibiotic
injection though as the wound is so large. Lucy was unperturbed by the
attention and was quite eager to get back into the waiting room to
continue growling at the dogs.
Lots of snow blowing heavily this afternoon and it made feeding time
difficult, told all the cats how lucky they were to have such warm
surroundings, its occurred to me that the cat pens are warmer than the
house.
Out in the summerhouse I learnt the importance of always keeping calm
when I found one of Sophies kittens hanging 3 foot in the air with his
neck through a dangly toy, fortunately he had only just got into that
mess and was clinging to the toy so no weight was on his neck otherwise
we would have lost him, needless to say toy has been cut down.
Vet nurse gave me some Sheba cat food which had been left for me, its
not a food I normally use so decided to try the very fussy Chelsea and
Grace with it, both foils gone in minutes, I will never figure cats out.
The wee ones in the kitchen are becoming excellent footballers and
little Sunshine seems to be mastering the art of the backward flip,
what a joy it is to sit and watch them. Though I was rather displeased
this morning, whilst I was stood at sink washing the mountain of cat
bowls kittens were supposed to be playing, instead cheeky Simon ran up
my leg puncturing a vein the pain was bad enough but feeling a sudden
hot sticky gush of running blood made things even worse. This is
happening a little too often.
Saturday 18th its 11 years today that I lost my feral boy Luke to Fiv ,
during his years with us Luke became very much a house cat enjoying his
creature comforts.
Everywhere is covered in a thick carpet of snow, Rob had to clear the
path for me to get down to the cat pens to muck out but by the time I
had finished the snow had come down again. Milly bless her is delighted
with the icy covering and is pouncing about like a big child, whilst
the other cats are happy to peer at it from a window. I cant remember
seeing it this bad in the 24 years we have been here and the sky is
full of it. I worry myself sick thinking of all the poor strays having
to cope in such conditions.
Young Sunshine maybe small but my goodness she is solid, she’s always
first to the food bowl and last to leave.
Dainty and Dodger are responding well to Zylkene and much less nervous
now.
Sunday 19th Dec,
Thanks to the playfulness of the muckspots mucking out was a total
nightmare this morning, how can it be possible to scrub 2 scratching
posts  and kittens mess things up quicker than you can clean, not only
that my poor trousers were soaked when I knelt in some spilt goats milk
and then got a covering of wet cat litter, finally when the bowl of
cold water was knocked over me I just couldn’t take anymore and the
tears came along with the words “I cant do this anymore”, before I knew
it Chuckyegg and Kiev were nuzzling as if they knew they’d gone too
far, such dear, sweet manipulative kittens, guess I’m proud of them
really.
The wee ones in the kitchen weren’t much better, their latest game is
jumping onto the full dustpan after I have finished sweeping to see how
far they can scatter the contents, Simon currently thinks its fun to
climb everywhere and anywhere especially up my legs which are now
covered in huge craters.I really need a cat to educate all of these
unruly bottlefeds, the late Buster and Minimopsical are really missed
in this department.
Monday 20th Dec
Warmest Temperature today minus 7degrees, heating is on full 24/7 but
its still not enough to stop water freezing. Ginga Ninjas making do
with Snugglesafe and so far seem to be coping alright. Really worried
about one of our ferals Milly who has refused to come for her afternoon
meal, found her on top floor of the bunker sitting shivering, after a
quick check she seems unharmed so have given her a heated pad and
wrapped her in a fleece, will go back in half an hour to check just
incase a vet is needed though I don’t know how I will get her into a
carrier. Snow and Christmas may seem magical but in truth its just one
massive worry and these are the lucky ones who have us to feed and
watch over them, seems so wrong that so many people are wrapped up in
buying toy mice for their cats totally unaware of the sadness going on
in the real world; if only I could help more.

I had the an email update from Teresa a couple of weeks ago, it was so lovely to hear the care she is continuing to offer those cats. She manages to always tell their story so well. She is hopefully going to email me some pics of little Simon if he sits still long enought.

Teresa is a remarkable lady. She offers a fantastic rescue and it was a shame she was driven away from here, and loses valuable extra publicity for Paws Inn.

This is going to be a long post,  but Teresa emailed me the updates on Paws Inn as I was desperate to know what was happening in that wonderful place,  it is so lovely that she is still keeping these updates:

At the Inn

Minus 3 this morning and mucking out begins as normal, poor cats cant understand why your fingers are purple and you keep dropping everything.
The Muckspots are huge now, bouncing all over me, its so hard to imagine that only a few weeks ago they were so tiny and frail as Kiev is busy savaging my hair yet again, Olive who I hardly hoped would survive has turned into a greedy little gannet always first to the food, Chuckyegg, Kentucky, Flora and Sunflower all take great delight in running me ragged, I can tell by the amount of purrs.

Sophie and her 7 little trouble makers are also growing at an alarming rate and are all such bundles of fun, Star and Sabrina the 2 little black/whites have the most perfectly formed piglet tails you could imagine, Serena and her brother Sol are explorers and take every opportunity to try to find an access point into the Pen next door as they think the Muckspots have much more fun.

The 3 longhaired kittens Selena, Skip and Stig look more like they should be adorning a chocolate box each day.

In the living room chaos reigns as Simon, Sunny and Summer treat the furniture like a giant toy and Simon realises the babies swinging chair is a huge fun place for a kitten to ride especially when you can sit on Nurse Betty (cuddly toy cat) at the same time, poor little Sunshine is not so good today we may go to see the vet later on, somehow I am convinced this little one is on loan.
Chelseas kitten Dinky is very displeased when I attempt to stick her pill down her throat and manages to send it back up before showing me teeth and claws, it doesn’t work and soon pill No 1 is safely swallowed, we will attempt pill no 2 in a few minutes when her litter mates Dainty and Dodger have calmed down a little, they seem to think they are in for medication too, they will be relieved to know its just for Dinky who appears to be yet another cerebral hypoplasia girl.

Annabel’s little family are growing fast, 7 weeks now and getting to the stage where they want to investigate the world, Norman Wisdom is definitely the ring leader followed by Fontaine. Pavlova is busy doing her ballerina steps while Darcy Tuttle is busy lounging around looking beautiful.
The adult cats are patiently waiting for breakfast with the exception of Chelsea who is busy with her usual routine of “I hope you have something different for me, something a little special “ yes Chelsea is a fussy madam.
We had a visitor later this morning a lovely lady called Anne, 15 years ago she came to us and adopted a little ginger boy called Russell, just over 3 years ago she adopted Andrew another of our bottlefeds to keep Russell company, today she met and fell in love with Norman Wisdom who will be going to live with the family when he is old enough, cant help but think what a wonderful life he has ahead.

Caught little Sunshine weeing on my carpet this afternoon, think her problems could well be kidney related, have put her on antibiotics and given her some vitamins, meanwhile keeping a very close eye on her. Have since been to vet who has given more antibiotics and vitamins, he agrees it looks suspiciously like kidney problems. The remainder of the day has been spent trying to organise heating and dehumidifier for cat pens, old dehumidifier broke down and water began dripping from ceiling, ended up buying new machine as well as an oil filled radiator to heat the summerhouse, at least now I am spared the shame of an appeal for cat umbrellas.
7.30pm and have been on the go since 5am and still more maintenance to sort outside before allowing baby Simon and his rabble to wreck the living room again, not that it needs wrecking its full of things I am supposed to be getting ready for next weeks Christmas social, O dear starting to feel like a failure in many ways but in my heart I know the cats think differently.

Sunday 28th November
Little ones in living room all played for an hour and tortured me while I used nebulisers, they are sleeping soundly with full tummys and I`ve just spotted one huge lump in the newly cleaned litter tray best get that out. Sunshine is brighter today and playing a little, poor girl is very weak on her back legs.
Its so cold I don’t want to face the journey down the path to the summerhouse but I know Sophie her 7 and the 6 muckspots have my feeding and cleaning duties timed to the second so best go and face it. Don’t know why I worried it was only minus 7 and I was numb to everything in no time, the inmates were all ecstatic to see me or rather the banquet I had prepared for them and dived in like hungry wolves. We have set up a new oil filled radiator which should hopefully provide more cosy living quarters for them.
By the time I reached the Isolation block I was considering a change of name to Mrs Frost, thankfully once in the Pens I soon began to warm up.
Dinky did her usual trick of spit the pill out, its not easy to pill a cat at the best of times  but when your hands are blue with cold it’s a nightmare and painful when the fingers come in contact with the teeth.
Melody, Lucy, Chelsea, Dodger, Dainty Annabel and her 4 all enjoyed a hearty breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed showing me how much cleaning they had made for me. Its funny I hate washing up but each morning we have around 100 - 120 cat bowls to wash and it’s a pleasure to do, warms the frozen hands nicely.
Must start making things for Saturdays social.

8.30pm and I am able to sit and relax, the rest of the work can wait till tomorrow, have 23 bags of rum truffles all bagged up nicely as well as some bags of sweets, tomorrow I must try to do some baking and some wrapping of raffle prizes and sale goods, that is after mucking out of course. Just remembered Dinky and possibly Sunshine vet appt at 10.30am so that must be done before any social prep. Think I need several of me.

Monday 29th
The cat pens were as warm as toast this morning so new heater and dehumidifier doing their jobs, just need to be a contortionist to squeeze into tiny working area I have allowed for myself.
Just back from the vets with Sunshine and Dinky, Sunshine has been sick this morning so she has had a couple of injections. Vet agrees that Dinky`s walking is getting worse and he has injected metacam just to see if it makes any difference despite the fact that her problem appears to be neurological.
1st December it’s a wonder I have any fingers left after doing a marathon worming session, lost count of how many pills after 24 but fortunately I list each cat as they receive the precious pill.
Seem to have spent hours answering phones to idiots wanting kittens for Christmas presents, Tuesday 7th Dec.
Last week was hectic getting ready for last Saturdays Christmas Social, many of our wonderful supporters braved the terrible weather to come and we raised a massive £960 which has thankfully covered our November vet bill.
The last 3 mornings have seen us clinging onto anything that doesn’t move while navigating along the sheet ice to the cat pens, getting to the summerhouse has been death defying but once inside it is so snug and warm and full of happy kittens and of course one mother cat; on a good note 2 of Sophies kittens are off to their new homes on Friday as is Norman Wisdom; Melody went to her new home last Friday.
Vet will be coming on Thursday to do yet another round of vaccinations, possibly 16 not counted up properly yet.
Sunshine is making good progress but is another little one who cannot walk properly, she reminds me of a spring lamb with her little leaps into the air but then when she somersaults backwards she reminds me of Minimopsical, I so hope she will outgrow this but somehow I fear I have yet another disabled little one. We are pretty certain that Dinky has some sort of brain storage disease, X-rays, blood tests have failed to find a cause for her inability to walk.

16 vaccinations done on Thursday, only little Sunshine pronounced unfit to vaccinate but she is currently doing ok, she so reminds me of a very young Minimopsical. Debbie came to help with today’s vet visit and seemed to spend most of her time laughing at Sunshine, Simon, Summer and Sunny as they did their very best to destroy my Christmas tree and then fought like crazy using my tree baubles as footballs.

Saturday 11th December, my poor tree could take no more, the kittens are 9-10 weeks now and not only into everything but climbing everything, I was so proud of my little tree and eagerly waiting for the grandchildren to visit and admire it, the tree has received major surgery this morning and hopefully it will survive till Christmas now that the 4 kittens have been moved to the kitchen. Bonnie has been brought into the living room and I saved the arm of our leather settee with seconds to spare, these cats are proving very hard work.

Thankfully Bonny has been reserved to go in January.
Sophies kittens Skip and Selena went to their new home yesterday, Sophie seems quite happy to be down to 5 kittens. Got a family coming to select 2 kittens at midday but they will not be going to new homes now until January.

Just a bump for this, 4th Dec... be there or be square elsewhere  :evillaugh:

Payday has finally arrived so have bought our tickets, hope everyone has a fab day

We are opening our doors to supporters on Saturday 4th December 2010 between 1pm and 5pm to raise much needed funds for the rescue. We are currently in dire straits and have extensive vet and food bills with very little funds to pay for them.

Visitors will have a chance to meet some of the current residents at the Inn and learn more about the rescue work that we do and how the money raised will go to help many more cats in need.

The social will include a raffle plus cat gifts and toys etc and other fun games.  Perfect for Christmas presents.

Mince pies and a glass of mulled wine is included in the admission charge.

If you would like to visit then please email pawsinn@aol.com for contact details and directions.

Admission is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children (includes refreshments).

We look forward to seeing you or if you can't make it then a donation would be greatly appreciated. We hate to ask, but we do really need your help to survive.

Many Thanks
