Beau, who is 16 years old, neutered from kitten hood, tooth problematic and recently hyperthyroid, has started with brown gooey discharge from his eyes. I noticed 3 days ago he had brown patches on his forearms but only today did I realise it was from washing his face. He is booked in to see our fab vet Neil on Saturday but what I've gleaned from Google is very varied.
Anyone had this?
-
Only when Bob had that eye infection earlier this year Sheila. It was dried blood mixed with gunge from the infection. Have you noticed if he is kicking his eyes at all due to them being itchy?
Poor Beau :( He is going through the wringer at bit :care: :care: Hope Neil can get to the bottom of it
-
Sorry Shiela no, but just sending some love Beau's way, hoping it can be easily sorted
-
Thanks, I gave him a dose of Metacam :innocent: last night and he looks a little better tonight. He's due his blood check anyway so we will see what our vet says in the morning. :thanks:
-
Hope he is OK
-
Sounds like an eye infection Max my Hyper T on Felimozole gets it sometimes whereas Clio on Vitalda doesn't we use a bit of the eye cream beginning with F would check but have Watson, Sherlocl, Sergai and half a Quaver Bengal on my knee  :Luv2:
Good luck for tomorrow
-
Fucithalmic maybe Liz?
Hope the vet visit goes well for Beau and it's easily sorted Sheila.
-
Thats the one Carol thanks
-
Sending lots of good vibes for Beau , hope the vet visit goes well
-
If he is having blood taken for tests today don't forget to tell the vet you gave him metacam as it may affect the results.
-
Sending tons of love your way xxxx

If he is having blood taken for tests today don't forget to tell the vet you gave him metacam as it may affect the results.
Thanks, I did tell him. It seems to have helped too as there's no sign if infection in his eyes now just the tell tale brown stains where he was rubbing his eyes. So no ointment needed.
Bad news though is Beau has lost half a kilo in 5 weeks, now down to 3.6 kgs, which has made him weak around his back legs so has developed a tottering gait.
We've taken full bloods to see what the issues are, which Neil will run in-house for me this afternoon.
We found a small ulcer on his lower canine that may have caused a loss of appetite, he has been struggling to eat anything but hand fed chicken and Dreamies for a few days and I've had to dose his Felimazole by hand rather than concealed in food, so he's had a Convenia antibiotic which should alleviate that and clear up any residual infection from the eye issue.
Needless to say I'm worried, and so is the vet, but holding out for the blood results before getting ahead of myself.
Think I'll change the topic title, I want to record his progress, as there's a lot going on with both Beau and life in general so this will help keep tabs on his progress.
Keep them crossed for him, he's a lovely little gentle soul who is the glue holding this delicately balanced furry family together. :crossed:

Title changed.

Sheila can you get some Complivet food supplement it is wonderful stuff and 1 to 2 pumps a day equlas a full days calories - it kept Kali kitten alive and helped with her weight gain as did the catmilk till I found Ronaxan tablets and was pretty much giving her anything to eat to help with the calories she does of course now love all the things like butter, cream, cheese, any meat and of course M & S Tuna pate which she still gets everyday with her tablet in it
Hoping it is just a blip so to speak and our Clio Hy[er T at 15 got all her teeth removed and sailed through her op, I also liquidised her food for 5 months after the op with added Complivet to help up her calorie intake as she had lost weight as well and is now a year on a steady 4kgs
Sending lots of   :hug:for you all x
-
Good thinking Liz, Beau will lap up lick-e-licks so I'll add some complivet to one of them when he wakes up (he's sleeping like a baby right now) :Luv:
I bought some Complivit for Theo and its definitely working on him, Theo doesn't like being indoors so now we feed him on the counter top (away from boistrous George) and supplement his dinner with Complivit so he only has to come in twice a day.
Good shout, and thanks for the hugs :thanks:
-
Fingers crossed there's nothing untowards in the blood results, mine always get slimmer in the summer and then put a bit back on as we head into winter so hopefully Beau can do the same
-
No probs think it is wonderful stuff and know it kept Chunckchop alive suring his worst Calichi time 18 months ago along with the Vit B, Covenia and metacam cocktail he has every 4 weeks topped up with injectable Metacam as and when during the 4 weeks - My vet gave me needles and a bottle of injectable Metacam as he said it would be cheaper than having a fridge full of prepaired ones for Millie Diabetic and Chunkchop
-
Hope bloods come back OK and mine dont eat so much in summer
-
Sorry for the delay in posting, Beau's bloods came back yesterday but its been a busy weekend!
T4 is back within normal range so the Felimazole is working fine at his current dose, all his other reading are fine except creatnine which is high at 96, not wholly concerning in itself but these results don't answer why his weight has dropped so dramatically, so we're still in the dark.
So, feed him up and keep an eye on him. We're going on holiday in 9 days so need him to pick up fast! :scared:
-
Sending lots of good vibes for Beau Sheila and a few   for you.
-
I dont think that bloods always tell the full story....what ndid the vet say?
-
Glad to hear that the bloods didn't show anything worrying, hope you can get Beau on the mend before you go away
-
Also hoping that Beau's progress can be stabilised before your holiday.
-
Another thing to try its usually a 5 day course is Ronaxan thats what Kali kitten is on for life she was 1.5kgs 9 months ago and a PTS in the vets words but her Mummy wasn't having it and found this drug so vets gave it a go and 9 months on she is nearly 4kgs of shiny black Kali kitten
-
all his other reading are fine except creatnine which is high at 96, not wholly concerning in itself
What is normal range Sheila on that scale? Normal range for Fred's scale was between 71 and 212 so I assume a different scale entirely for Beau's result.
So pleased his T4 is back within normal range though. It's quite common I think for kidney results to be a little poorer as the thyroid is brought under under control.
Very much hope Beau makes full use of next 9 days to get his appetite into full swing
-
Pattering quietly by to top up the hugs and positive thoughts for Beau's progress. :cat rub:
-
Topping up good vibes for Beau and   for you, Sheila.
-
Morning Beau! Morning Sheila.  Hoping all is well.
-
Hello Beau and Sheila - hope you're both doing OK. Sending you both
-
Yes, he's recovering slowly, thanks ;D
The big news is he will now eat cat food again which us a heck of a relief, it's one thing to have a cat who will eat bits of chicken from your hand, but quite another to have one you feel you can safely leave with the cat sitter for a fortnight :shify:
Keep the vibes coming, we fly out in the morning and he'll be Aunty Kathys main consideration for the next twô weeks. :thanks:
-
Sending lorryloads of positive vibes for Beau and for your holidays being stress free and relaxed, Sheila. Bon Voyage, travel safely and Beau - you be gud fer yer Ma. ;)
-
Glad to hear that Beau is now settled enough for you to be able to leave him without worrying too much. I hope that you have a great holiday and return to find your lad doing well
-
Beau never regained his strength, he has continued to deteriorate and today I have seen a change about him. One of my other older cats made postures towards him this evening which scared him enough that he has gone to hide in a box. He is depressed, giving up, I can't get him to even taste his chikkun, his eyes are dim and he doesn't purr for me, thinking that I'm going to stick something in his mouth or make him eat horrible pills.
I've been feeding him by syringe, trying to dose him Felimazole twice daily, in recent days watching him teeter around barely able to get in and out of the litter tray any more, the poor old thing has had enough. :(
So, my decision is made, Beau will be going to the Bridge, today if I can get an appointment at the hospital.
Felt I needed to write this down while my thoughts are clear, it's unlikely I would sleep at all knowing what tomorrow means for us, and this could help me order my thoughts. Hubby is in agreement and has offered to take him for me, but I want to be there for my boy, my special, adorable, gentle boy who has been the glue holding our fragile furry family together for 16 wonderful years. He has been with me since 8 weeks old and I shall miss him so very much but to keep him here any longer would be selfish and cruel.
Vibes, please for a swift and peaceful passing. :thanks:
-
Oh Sheila :( :( I am thinking of you and Beau and OH.
This has brought tears to my eyes, I know how special your little man is to you

Oh treasure. Holding all of you in my thoughts. Safe journeying, Beau. Swift release and aeons of love for you xxx

So very sorry to hear this Sheila, I know you will do what is right for him no matter how much it breaks your heart
-
You and your special man Beau will be uppermost in my thoughts today Sheila.   Sending lots of vibes for peaceful passing surrounded by love. I know you will be heartbroken.
-
So sorry that this time has come :( I will be thinking of you all today
-
Oh Sheila. I'm so sorry. Only just seen this and my heart goes out to you; truly it does
Can imagine how alone you have felt overnight and so wish I had known earlier. I wish I had words to help steal you and OH's nerves for today. I always have to be there too despite the awful pain we feel.
Wishing Beau a quick, peaceful and stress free passing and sending you much love Mrs :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Thank you all for the kind thoughts. Beau will see the vet at 1130 this morning. It's also the Anniversary of my beloved Granny's death, so I know she will be waiting for her great grandson with arms wide open on their side of a The Bridge.
I'm a mess, right enough, but this isn't about me anymore. Beau managed a lick-e-lick but not Chikkun, he's on the bed, has said his Goodbyes to his old friend Sly da sly and is now nodding off. Peace reigns.
-
Sheila my heart goes out to you at this time but they always seem to let us know when their time is right even though they break our hearts
I wish for a peaceful passing as our darling McKenzie had surrounded by those that love him - only ever borrowed never owned but always a pawprint in your heart x
-
RIP gentle soul. Mum loves you very, very much.
Xx

Sheila
-
Sheila  it's the last loving thing we can do for our adored friends ( even though it always makes me feel like a traitor!), to ease their passing and be with them at the end.
Run free beautiful Beau :candle:
-
:(
So very sorry to hear that your lovely, gentle boy has gone. RIP Beau, a shining star in the night sky tonight.
I wish love and peace to his heartbroken family.
-
I think we always know when they look at us with those "I love you, but I've had enough" eyes that it's the right and kindest thing to do, because we love them so. Sorry for your loss, hope you can soon remember him with smiles as well as tears. RIP puss.
-
Oh Sheila, I'm so sorry. RIP Beau xxx
-
So sorry Shiela, for all of you
It does sound like the right decision, though
RIP Beau

as you know, I lost my Hobs 2 days ago, so I know exactly how you feel. I don't have many words lately (none that make much sense) , just want you to know you are in my thoughts and my heart goes out to you. xxxxxxx
