i did once have a white cat called Blizzard but he was killed by my evil neighbours dog at 8 months old and left by the road side to make it look as though he been a victim of an RTA.  as far as i know cars dont leave bite marks but since then i havent wanted a white cat.  i think they are beautiful but a white cat would remind me too much of that poor little boy.

I cannot understand the black and black white cat thing.  They are gorgeous. I would take one if I was having another cat def.  Best of luck on the 13th!  You should call one of them Jason!!!!!

Most of our cats have been black

i really don't understand why people don't like black cats .  how can any cat be considered unlucky?  i have 3 black boys and 5 black and whites and every one of them is fantastic (as are all my cats).  there is no colour i wouldnt say yes to, ALL cats are brilliant.

Its nice to get 2 but keep in mind there are some cats who dont want to share with other animals and can be harder to home as many adopters have other pets at home already

Good luck at the weekend.  As Rosella said, get two.  Double the trouble fun!  My lot have beds but they generally prefer boxes, laundry baskets, dining table, our bed, sofa, rugs, paper bags etc etc.  They'll find their own comfy spots.

Don't forget to post pics when they arrive x

When we first got Edward he would only sleep in his carry box...

My Mums cat STILL does that and she's about 11! My mum buys all these lovely throws and she still prefers the plastic carrier box she was transported in as a kitten.

Fantastic - it's so lovely when you go to get a new one.

On beds - ours are generally happy whereever... laudry basket, on a pile of dirty laundry you were about to wash (that's just mags - he can be a bit odd - i assume it's because it smells of us so he feels safe), boxes, beds and sofas....

When we first got Edward he would only sleep in his carry box...

How lovely! and nice that you are considering ones who are hard to rehome (irrelevant of colour), that's what I would do too.  Look forward to photos  ;D

I am sure there will be a big choice and a good idea to ask what food and litter they have been using.

Lots of luck with finding the right cat for you  ;D

Celia Hammond Animal Trust. They are local-ish - I cycle past their shop on the way home from work, and always start thinking about cats at that point...  :Luv:

Although I do have a short attention span as ten minutes afterwards do I pass a Chinese restaurant and start thinking about food ;D

Well i am sure they will have LOADS and LOADS to choose from ! ( i find it quiet destressing there)
Good luck....it would be nice if you took a pair....or ask them who has been waiting the longest
xx

I think a cardboard box deep enough so they can hide is a good idea. Not all cats are that shy but when I got Kyle from CP I had a deep box in the living room. I put it at the far end and ignored her to let her calm down. Every now and then, her little head popped up  :Luv2: - She was still in it when I went to bed but not long after, I felt a thump on the bed and she started nuzzling me. One more thing, it is a good idea to have the litter tray set up ready. Kylie must have been desperate as no sooner had I let her out of the carrier she went straight to the tray for a long wee  :evillaugh:

Which rescue are you getting your cat/s from?

Ooh they are gorgeous  :) but if they all look like that I might come home with the whole rescue population  :innocent:

And thanks for the tips JackSpratt - now I know to expect possible non-eating and upset tummies without being too worried  :thanks:

We're going there on Friday the 13th, so it would be appropriate if we ended up with one of the black cats

Many years ago, we took little a little black and white kitten home with us on a Friday 13th .....

My daughter named him "Lucky" and he grew into one of the most charming, amusing and loving cats Ive ever had the privilege of having in my home  :Luv2:

Rachel, cats have a habit of choosing whatever they want for a bed, so a box with a blanket in is fine! (Have to say though, some Tescos are doing nice beds fairly cheap if you wanted to splash out.)

Don't know if this is any help:

Good on you for being non-descriminatory regarding black cats. As you can see from the signature I'm a fan; my tom is a pure black.

After a home visit at the weekend OH and I are going to the rescue next week to choose a cat (or maybe even a pair!)

We're going there on Friday the 13th, so it would be appropriate if we ended up with one of the black cats the rescue says is hard to rehome (it strikes me as very weird that people can love cats but only if they're a particular colour...)

Any tips for settling it/them in? We will have plenty of food, litter tray stuff, scratching posts, and a catnip toy... do we need to buy a cat bed or is one made from cardboard box and old blankets okay?

Rachel
