Hi all, I know Angie has posted this in the "Cats Needing Homes" Section but thought I would post on here too so not to miss anyone ;)
My gorgeous boys are staying with us in Rugby until we find them a home.
Our other cat Mojo is also looking for a new home, (see other thread)
Thanks,
Leigh x
Dylan and Smudge:
Pedigree Exotic Shorthair brothers, neutered aged three. Dylan is a long haired cream/red boy and Smudge is a grey, blue eyed colourpoint. These two are very timid and shy with strangers and would prefer a quiet and calm home, preferably with no young children. They are indoor cats but love having access to a secure and quiet garden when the sun is out and especially in the summer evenings when the moths are about!
Dylan's favourite things are sleeping, eating and chasing flies and Smudgie's are following you around the house chatting away and also sleeping upside down!
They are not lap cats but are still hugely affectionate and are wonderful pets who unfortunately are being rehomed through no fault of their own.
They are also very close companions and enjoy grooming and sleeping together and should never be split.
:'(

Would help if I added some photo's
-
These cats are lovely - I especially like Mojo though. :Luv:
(With regards to the posting in two sections; you aren't strictly speaking supposed to. ;))
-
they are lovely, I don't suppose they will take long to home
-
:Luv: they are beautiful :Luv2:
-
:Luv: :Luv: :Luv: cant see them waiting long! ;D
-
Oh my goodness, those blue eyes - I knew I shouldnt have looked at this thread :innocent: why are you having to rehome them? how sad for you.
-
maybe you can swap a chinchilla!!

Our baby is allergic :( He also has very bad eczema which is just made worse with the irritation. He has lived with it for 9 months now bless him, more for our sake really which is me being a selfish Mummy :-[ But I just kept putting it to the back of my mind, thinking it will go away. But then a few weeks ago our doctor said it is starting to affect his breathing now and asthma could be a possibility???!!! There is a lot in Daddy's family with eczema, asthma and cat/dog allergies. These problems have recently got worse as he is starting to learn how to crawl and spends most of his time rolling around the floor and playing with cat hair! :naughty:
We have tried all sorts, antihistamines, steroids etc As well as separating Kitty's and baby. Our poor cats used to have the run of the house, sleep on our beds and enjoy the peace and quiet of our very peaceful house... which has of course now changed dramatically! They now deserve a forever home where they will be pampered all day everyday.
Sorry to go on and on but I feel I need to explain myself as I am still finding it very hard to think that soon I won't have these beautiful boys in my life, sorry getting all dramatic and girly now!!! :(
Leigh x
P.S maybe you can swap a chinchilla!!
Ha, ha, ha!

Thats very sad  - just a thought, wonder if you've tried Petalcleanse? http://www.bio-life.co.uk/ its a lotion wiped on the cats' fur and it reduces the allergens. It takes about 3 weeks to take effect though, as it reduces allergens from the coat and therefore in environment. I thought I'd mention it in case it hadnt been tried and if it meant a way of keeping you all together.
-
Hi Gillian, Sorry it took me a while to reply. No we haven't tried Petalcleanse. We are also thinking about their happiness now. They get very distressed when our son cries. Smudge will run around the house meowing and scratching at closed doors, they will also start to pick on each other and fight. We tried using Feliway for this but it didn't really make much of a difference! This is really upsetting to watch and they never seem to relax anymore. Even when baby goes to bed, they won't come in to our lounge and sit with us, they just sit on our dining chairs hidden until we go to bed. They find new smells and things quite difficult to deal with and are still terrified of the pushchair! :(
They deserve a home where things are calm, without a screaming baby on the verge of crawling, (can you imagine how scared they will be then!) But also where they can be totally comfortable and happy forever :'(
And now to top it all off I am pregnant again :tired:
It just wouldn't be fair on these poor boys, they deserve to come first.

Leigh, I think you've made an incredibly difficult decision and I admire the fact you are putting the cats psychological welfare before your own want to keep them in your family. I would imagine it's quite heartbreaking and hope homes are found soon that are suitable.
-
Thank you :innocent:
I was really worried people would think that I am just another person disposing of her cats now she has a baby, I know we have all heard it before. But my heart brakes everytime they run for cover when I come downstairs in the morning. It is the best thing for them.... I just hope they will find a home through here so I can always catch up with them and I know that when I see them happy in their new home I wont be sad anymore. :Luv:
I watched that programme on five the other night about the Lion cub from Harrods and that just finalised it for me! :innocent:
-
Leigh just reading your posts you can see how much you care, i know some of my lot wouldnt cope with a babies appearance, i dont plan on children as my cats fill that job but i would have to make the same call as you have done
-
Well just came back from taking Dylan for his grooming and the lady there said she knows somebody interested in just Dylan, thats the third time someone has asked for just Dylan!
How can anyone not want those big blue eyes!
-
If they would split them up then they are good enough for your boys
-
If they would split them up then they are good enough for your boys
Think you mean NOT good enough MM :shy: I agree, if I ever had to let my boys go I would rather die than let them be split up

Oops, what she said :-[
-
Don't you even think about it - I'd prefr to adopt them myself than see them go to different homes!!
-
I wish Beavis was more amenable to extra company , I' have both like a shot! :(
-
awww, I couldn't split them up and Smudge is just adoooorable, that munchable round face :Luv2: they are both equally as lovely in my eyes . If I didn't only adopt old cats I would have them like a shot.
-
I read on Mojos thread that a Purrs member is giving these guys a home....c'mon own up!! :shify:
-
oooooh :sneaky:
-
Well, I have emailed her with the good news sooooooo where are the dancing bananas???????????? :naughty:
-
I'd like to see them too. ;)
-
so ............. we know it's a she
next clue please
-
Oh... well she has 4 other cats????????????????
Not that that narrows it down at all!
Where are you?! x
-
they haven't joined the Clan then :evillaugh:
-
I have 4 cats but its not me lol x
-
Nope not coming to the Clan
We only have room for one posh cat the ragdoll her Minmin- ness ;D
-
Right, I give up >:( I'm sure there was a thread recently where loads of people said how many cats they had - I've spent ages looking for it and I can't find it :shify:
Off the top of my head there's:
Gill
DawnF
Zoe (already said it's not her)
Tina (think she has 4?)
Moiramassey
Surely it can't be Debsy?! That would just be greedy seeing as she will be adopting the lovely Mojo already.
-
Im as curious as u r helen
-
its me!!!!! just need to work out the transportation, I was going to go with Debs but have a stupid teleconference that i had forgotten about that doesn't finish until 2 on Monday so will probably have to be Tuesday - I'm excited but a bit nervous as well - I really hope they all get on :scared: I had decided a month or two ago to get another bengal but these boys have a lovely calm temperament and need a home so in the long run should fit into the gang a bit easier - I fell in love with an exotic at the blue cross I go to a few years back, his name was Alfred and he was such a sweetheart, unfortunately they don't encourage multicat households and so I couldn't have him
-
;D He looks to like other cats from the pics with the others
-
So glad that these 2 get to stay together and Dawn gets 2 new babies
If this keeps up Purrs will have many more multi households and so many more photo's for us to drool over ;D
-
I am nervous!! about how they will get on about if I will ever find my way to Rugby!! I'm also touched that Leigh is entrusting them to me, I know it hasn't been an easy choice for her
-
:1st place: Dawn ;D
You kept that one quiet! I'm sure these lovely boys will settle in just fine, as i said about Mojo I'm sure Leigh will miss them all terribly but she has to put her son's health first and now all three of them have found absolutely first class loving homes with Purrs people they will all be in safe hands
One thing though Dawn, I'm not sure if it was mentioned but as part of the adoption process you are required BY LAW to learn how to post piccies so we don't miss out on seeing the gorgeous Dylan and Smudge settling in :evillaugh:
-
I'll try!! ;)
-
Aww, good to hear that Dylan and Smudge have a great new home lined up too. :)
-
Oh my goodness Dawn! :yesss: how exciting!

-

-
no that's Debbie
ahhh, right :evillaugh: thanks oooooh you lucky thing you they are gorgeous :Luv2:
-
Congratulations Dawn - I am really happy for you and Smudge and Dylan - they are gorgous boys :Luv2:
I dont know how you managed to keep quiet about such exciting news xxx
-
I'm really, really nervous!!! Its been a while since I introduced new cats :scared:
-
Dont be nrevous Hun - they will have each other for moral support so that should help things I would think.
-
Congrats Dawn ;D they should be easier to introduce than a hypo bengal, keep calm and they will be ok
-
They will be absolutely fine, just be patient and all will work out great x
-
I love them and wish it was me but I am all full :shify:
I remember those pictures from when Angie first posted them and that exotic is just stunning ;D
So pleased another Purrs peep is having them and will add to our roll of honour ;D
-
I would have loved them to -but i am full too and Winston would never accept another male in the house .
He only likes Smartie because he was here first and he is so passive and soft.
You are very lucky Dawn -hope everything works out well.
-

Hi Dawn, Don't worry too much about the cats settling in. I thought 3 Persians i picked up from london a week last saturday would take ages to settle in amongst 5 of my own moggies 2 moggies on my adoption list and 2 moggies fostered. But within a few days they were in the same room and now even eat and play in the same room. and 2 of the persians have been attempting to play with 2 of my Moggies and visa versa.
Sending lots of possitive vibes and big Hugz and Purrrz from The-Kats-Whiskers
What i did to make things easier on the previous owners because they found the proccess so upsetting, was to create a website just for the 3 Persians so they can read regular updates and see pictures.
http://purrrrfect-persians.blogspot.com (http://purrrrfect-persians.blogspot.com)
They have found it a great comfort.
Good luck and have a safe journey collecting your new babies.
-
thanks! I am dreading the journey because I know how useless i am! they won't be mixing with my lot yet at the jabs need doing but I'm hoping it won't take long for them to settle
-
I know what you mean Dawn! When I went to collect Honey and Gypsy, I'd never been there before, and it should have been a half hour journey, but ended up being over an hour, cos I got myself completely lost LOL! On the way home Honey yelled the whole way, my nerves were shattered by the time I got home :tired: Gypsy settled in straight away, but Honey took a little longer.
On the other hand when I went to get Suzie, I managed to find the place straight away and she was as quiet as a mouse all the way home. When Jasper and Zeta came together - they were delivered, so no fraught journey for me :)
You are wise not to mix straight away, they'll need time to settle in anyway before they meet the others. Is it tomorrow you are getting them?
-
yes I'm leaving home about 10 it should take 1hr 40 according to the internet but probably twice as long for me!
-
how soon is too soon to mix them? I've always done the scent swapping for introductions but haven't ever thought about disease control before being on here and now I think I probably know a bit too much!
-
Hi Dawn,
Don't worry too much about them being settled quickly. When we first picked them up they hid upstairs for a while and then slowly came down the stairs for a nose around. Obviously its a bit more difficult for you as you are keeping them separate first. Its a shame I couldn't get them vaccinated before you picked them up, as I think your cats will have settled them in quickly. They are so inquisitive of other cats. I read some where that it might be their breed, as exotics have apparently so road sense and aren't particular aware of their surroundings! This means that if another cat ever jumped on our wall or walked past our gate they were more curious than territorial! ...Unlike Mojo who just ran inside!! :Luv:
Just get loads of catnip in, and furry mice... they will love you in no time :)
Whatare your other babies like with newcomers?
x
-

They are from a loving home environment not a mixed rescue home or a neglected case so they shouldnt have been exposed to much, knowledge can be a bad thing at times!
-

Presumably you will be getting them vaccinated in the next few days? Will it be the full course or just a booster? If its the full course, its generally 3 weeks between 1st and 2nd jab - so if it was me I'd wait till after the 2nd jab (thats what I did with BB). Otherwise I'd probably wait at least a week before intros - doing the scent swapping etc like you mentioned, by then you'll be able to judge how Smudge and Dylan might react - and how yours will too.
-
They will be first vaccs as my vet told us that as mainly indoor cats they didn't need them! I now know this isn't necessarily true as they could still pick something up in the garden?! Strange for a vet to say that when he is going to be missing out on the proceeds of several sets of vaccinations every year! :sneaky:
-

Also with the cat flu virus, it's airborne as well as with contact, so, although unlikely in an indoor cat, still theoretically possible, with windows open etc.
Yes, sure is unusual for a vet NOT to recommend vacs! :-:
-
Has anyone heard how Dawn got on collecting these 2 lovely boys ?
-
didn't get there, took a day off work and in the morning oh turned his ankle on the front step, ended up in a and e for half the day - he has a broken ankle - :tired: I'm now on a course for two days - Saturday is the earliest I could get to Leigh but because of this stupid course I haven't managed to speak to her yet    plus having a man in the house with anything broken is a nightmare
-
Oh no! been wondering how you'd got on - your poor OH! You'll be driving then? - with OH as 'back seat driver'? :innocent:
-
Hi guys,
These two are unfortunately looking for a home again. :(
Leigh x
-
Oh no! What sad news :(
-
How can I put *STILL LOOKING* on the thread title ???? Mods?
-
If you go into the priginal post you can update the title from there and it will appear on all responses from now on. If it was someone else who posted originally then I am sure one the mods will help.
-
Thanking you
-
Oh hec, I was really hoping that these guys wouldnt be available again - to save me from myself you understand! :innocent: anyway, I'm full here, definitely full.....keep saying it and I'll believe it :innocent:
-
Yes, i have had another look and i have to tell myself Winston would not accept any male cats - he has been fine with FiFi and Bungly , but he doesn''t like other males ! He accepts Smartie though because he was there before Winston and he is so soft he wouldn''t fight with any cat .
They are so tempting though ;)
-
Oh dear this is so sad and they are soooooooooooooooo gorgeous.........I am also full cos if I wasnt I would have taken them,
-
I am so tempted - just worried about upsetting my others.
-
They have now been rehomed with Purrrrfect (Shelley).
-
Sorry that was a bit short! Haven't stopped sobbing since they left! :'(
x x x
-
Hi who moved this to the sorted page? thought I'd lost it!
-
 Your little boy can get better now- just give him lots and lots of hugs to help you feel better. They have gone to live with other persians? How lovely xxx
-
Awwww hunni i was crying on the way home because i felt bad that you were hurting. We are back now and they traveled well on the way back and are now in the lounge with our other 3 persians. We left them in the crate and let them come out on thier own. As i said to you i will add them to Purrrrfect-Persians so you can see how they are doing. They will be well looked after and spoilt, you have my number so you can ring me anytime to see how they are doing. Big Hugz & Purrrs. Shelly. xx
-
Blimey I knew persians were addictive but you certainly have the bug! :evillaugh:
Good luck with your new babies and I'm sure they will settle in with your other fluffs soon

Cats are addictive hunni lol My greatest passion in life is cats and i just adore the persian breed. I also have the time and patience to groom them. They will be spoilt along side my other cats. I was so sad when i saw thier new home had fell through and thought how leigh must be feeling.
-
Sorry I couldn't say bye, it got a bit too much. Thats very unlike me, OH thinks I am cold hearted!!? :tired:
Dylan and Smudge going really seems to have hit me harder, not sure why. Probably because Mojo was so bouncy and loved fuss so much that I knew he would be straight at home with Jasper and clan ;)
But I am surprised that they are with your other three already... they must think they have died and gone to heaven with three other posh cats!!!
Can't wait to see them walking around with their noses in the air with your other three on Purrrfect Persian website. :Luv:
-
That is fantastic news , so pleased for them - hope they settle well.
There are a lot of persian owners on here now and most have at least 3 !
-
Told you Shelley! - it starts with one or two and before you know it............ ;)
Excellent news! ;D

Cant wait to see some pictures ;D

Shelly rule of thumb is get some the same colour and folks don't notice you have more :evillaugh: - we now have 43 but noone ever sees them all at once!!!!!
We started with 2 and it just sort of grew from there and then the feral love affair started with OH and we now have 29 of them!

Iv'e always said that, get them the same colour. I have 2 smoke/black long haired persians and hubby can tell them apart better then i can lol I also have 1 black half persian, a black female up for adoption and a black cat fostered for my step daughter lol  i have 15 cats in the house at the moment but its a big house so you dont see them all at once lol i would take more but hubby does put his foot down. And i think he has quite taken to the persians so didnt mind me having 2 more ;D

On the 10th April 2009 i took on Dylan & Smudge who were said to be 3yrs old so they should by my reckoning be just over 4yrs old now? I was all set to lavish them with love for a good few years yet but....
On 20th July 2010 a Tuesday afternoon i noticed Smudge (Puddin) was a little under the weather and those gorgeous blue eyes had turned yellow so i got him straight into the vets. I waited in the car while hubby went in. When he came out he gave me the most awful news that my poor little Puddin has Liver Cancer and it's inoperable and he only has between a week and a month to live. ;'( We decided to bring him home and he's on streoids to perk him up a bit & get him eating. He's not in pain or suffering at the moment. ;'( :(
The vet told us that Smudge is infact closer to 10yrs old!! as there is no way a cat of 4yrs could have such progressive liver cancer. I have been crying since tuesday knowing that i am going to lose my little Puddin. :'( I can't believe that iv'e not had him for long but i'm going to lose him very soon. He has lost the beautiful little meow he once had.
I'm spoiling him more than usual and making the most of the time i have left with him. I really don't know how Dylan will be without him although they eventually went their separate ways. Smudge just loved running round keeping everyone in line.. :(
The picture was taken not long after i got them home and the white female behind the scratch post is 11yrs old now and also on borrowed time. :( :'(
I have already lost 5 cats in just over 2yrs it just doesn't seem fair that my cats keep being taken away from me. Most peoples run of bad luck sees a washer or fridge break down. iv'e lost one cat after the other.
I rescued another Persian Fudge, from a rescue in pembrokeshire a few months ago, i don't know if anyone recalls me posting for a transport run? Anyway a month ago he fell ill with respitory problems and had to be put to sleep because he was not responding to treatment and took a turn for the worst. He was meant to be around 3 - 4yrs old. I had him for a mere month. He brightened up any ones day. He would chirrup when you walked in the room and was so pleased to see you. He was the biggest gentlest cat id'e ever known.
The 2nd pic is of Fudge the day he arrived. He came out of the crate climbed to the top of the scratch post looked round and said "I'm Home"
Sorry for the essay i just needed to post this. :-[
-
Howdy, I was just thinking about these two the other day - I really didn't remember / click it was you that had finally had them.
I am very sorry and shocked by the news on your post - poor Smudge - and you of course! I suppose the vet must have felt a tumour? did he do a biopsy?
Jill has one cat given to her with liver cancer by RSPCA / CP when he was a nipper and he's still with her 4 years later and as fit as a fiddle (on steroids).
As for 10 years, can I just say tosh to your vet. The boys started off life with me as kittens 8 months in march 6, I got them neutered here, did you not also have their "papers"? There's photos on the old cat chat when they were nippers.
-
sorry to hear you are having such a tough time
-
Smudge was put to sleep earlier this afternoon,
He took a turn for the worse, i found him on the hall
staggering around and bleeding from the back end so hubby rushed
him to the vets. The vet said he would not have lasted
another 24 - 48hrs. I couldn't bare to go with hubby.
He said he was sure he saw Smudge smile.
I cut a little of Dylan's fur and placed it between Smudge's paws so that he had a piece of Dylan to take with him. :'(
R.I.P my beautiful little man. Sweet dreams xx

I am so saddened to read this - hope you are okay Leigh  I remember how heartbroken you were at having to re home your boys xxx
RIP sweet Dylan - play hard at the Bridge handsome boy xxx
-
Thank you both :)
Sorry sheryl it was Smudge that passed away, not Dylan... sorry that was probably the way I worded my last post :)
Is there any more news on how Dylan is coping without him?
-
Sorry Hun - thinking of you
