When I got Mogs from the rescue I used a cardboard carrier. It didnt even last until I got her home! Im driving along on a hot day with Mogs at the side of me when she suddenley decided shed had enough of the box and ripped it to shreds. I had to pull in quickly and try to get the windows closed whilst she climed up my front and over my shoulder. She travelled the rest of the way home on the back shelf of a mini. When I got to the flats I had to grab hold of her and cling on whilst carried her acrross the carpark, opened the door, got in the lift and finally unlocked my front door. By then her claws were so deep in my neck and back I had to go through to the front room and sit on the floor in front the the chair so she could climb up my neck again onto the chair.
Not a particulary good introduction but the the very next day I went and bought a big plastic carrier. Now though Im thinking I should get another as mines beginning to stretch where the handle is and I dont want it to fall apart with her in.
If anyone asks me about cardboard carriers now I tell them not to bother
love

few years ago a client left the practice with her cat in a normal carrier, we were on a busy street and the silly woman opened the carrier to "have a look at her cat" and of course she lept out, me and the other nurse spent hours outside that afternoon looking for her as she had legged it up to a builders yard.  Luckily we did finally get her.  I was rather annoyed as the owner didnt put much effort into looking and really it wasnt up to us as it wasnt us that had lost her or let her out but oh well least the cat was safe

I hate those cardboard carriers, useless for rodents and even more so for cats. I see lost & found ads all the time where the cat has escaped its cardboard box, so sad for £15 pounds it neednt have happened  :(

I was in the vets the other day when a cat forced its way out of one of them, the receptionists found it amusing so i informed them otherwise  :evillaugh:

The £13/14 one from Argos will hold an 8kg cat with no issues!!! I personally would never buy a small carrier, I always buy the largest one they have, as while they might look lost when young, you dont want to have to buy another one in a few years cos they are too small for it.

Oh dear!! The cardboard cat boxes they sell are completely useless, as you have found out. Can you get to an Argos Fluffy? I can only think of one pet shop where you are, but there must be others.

Could you get one of these http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-5844.aspx  its pretty cheap altho there are better slightly more expensive options.

you are going to need a proper carrier anyway really to cart the kitten back and forth for vaccs and neuters plus any unexpected illness/injury so a proper cat carrier is a must really for us feline slaves.

a strong plastic cat carrier is much more safe than a cardboard box

when have they booked him in for ?

 :censored:

well today was the big chop day, so he didnt get fed this morning. which he wasnt too impressed about!

well i put him in his cardboard box (which hes been sleeping in all week) and jobs a good un, open front door and the handle breaks on the box  so i carried it to the top of my road and he starts wiggling about in this bloody box. next thing i know out pops a monkeys head and he kinda gives me this look ;) so i was like arghhh tried to put him back in at the top of my street with everyone watching but he wasnt having any of it he had clawed his way a huge hole so it just wasnt happening.

i got home put him down and rang the otherhalf at work and all he could say was "good lad"
i was like oh my god hes having his balls off if its the last thing i do

so now ive had to reschedule to vets (who incidently thought it was all rather amusing themselves) and go and buy a STRONG plastic box instead!!
