Hi everyone I am new!
Me and my husband are hopefully picking up our new cat in about a weeks time from the blue cross. She is 8 years old and really loving. We are just waiting for her to have some dental work then we can pick her up! So excited got everything ready for her :)
Her name is skip, we aren't keen on the name so we are trying to think of a new name. We have had a few suggestions but if anyone has any ideas it would be so helpful!
Here is a pic of her!
Please suggest some names for her! :)
-
:welcome: to Purrs!
So pleased you're giving a home to a puss in need. ;D
I suggest you have "Skip" for a week or two before changing her name - I bet several suitable names will come to mind once you get to know her.
She's absolutely gorgeous - very unusual markings :Luv:
-
Hello
She's a pretty girl.
You'll easily come up with a name once you get her home. You'd think my one is mystical and named after the moon goddess when actually its short for Lunatic as she settled in as if she owned the place in about five minutes flat. Cleo is so named as she likes to roll over a lot and Tippy Tumbles didn't seem right.
-
:welcome: to Purrs ;D
Oh boy is she gorgeous :Luv2:
I agree get her home first and then a name will probable just come ;D
If not I am sure Purrs will come up with more than you want LOL
-
:welcome: to Purrs ;D
Glad you've found us, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. It really is a very friendly forum with lots of friendly helpful advice, if ever needed, and of course lots of fun.
I do feel it my public duty to warn you though that it can be a teensy bit addictive  You have been warned :evillaugh:
What a pretty girl :Luv2: Was Skip the name the rescue gave her or her name she's had all her life? If it's the one she's had all her life I'd try for something that sounds similar - maybe Pip? If it's just a temporary name then the sky's the limit :naughty: Do you prefer human names or more catty names?
-
Oh she's lovely - very pretty! I bet you can't wait. :wow:
Finding a name is hard at the best of times, but I agree that if she's had the name all her life, changing it may be a bit of a challenge, although most cats adapt (or ignore us!)
Cant wait to hear more about how you get on, and we hope you'll really enjoy the forum, showing off your beautiful new girl :Luv:
-
:welcome: to purrs :) Skip is gorgeous :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: I am another one who thinks once you get her home you will know what to call her.
-
Hi
Thanks for your replies! Yeh we can't wait! I am usually really nervous around cats but I was absolutely fine with her I think it's because she looks similar to a cat I had when I was little. Skip has been her name all her life! But she is such a pretty cat that's why we don't think the name suits her because I might say "tip" by accident lol
-
Aw, what makes you nervous around cats? Did you have a bad experience with one?
I'm sure Skip will cure you of your nervousness!
-
It's just the claws and when they sit on your lap and dig their claws into you! I think it's called kneading! Just makes me feel sick.....also like younger cats like to attack you like playing. That's why we went for an older cat
-
Hello I'm new here too!
Awww your new cat is such a cutie :Luv:
I changed one of my rescue cats' names :) He was called Dougal when i got him - but I already had kittie Hugo and thought that when I shouted their names the sound 'HU' and 'DOU' sounded too similar. So Dougal became Gilbert. New name to go with his new forever life. To be honest as soon as I saw him, Gilbert seemed more of a Gilbert than a Dougal anyway.
He got to know his new name in no time at all and has never looked back.
I'm sure Skip will happily get used to a new name if you decide to change it, (especially if Dreamies are part of the deal!) :Luv:
-
If you put something on your knee they will nead that and its just them telling you they love you and getting comfy.
Also keeping their claws clipped so they dont get too long will help although when they start growing again they are like little needles LOL
Have to say I have no lap cat any more and miss that so much......well Napoleon was a chest cat really :innocent: the velcro boy.
I remember moaning that he lay on my typing arm etc etc but boy what I would give to have him back.
-
I'm just going to slowly get used to it! We have been told we can pick her up at the weekend but hopefully going to visit her on Wednesday :)
-
Not all cats knead. My two sit on my lap usually on a cushion (cos Bass does dig her claws in a bit but that's just to hold on!) but rarely knead (or "nest" as I like to call it).
They knead the duvet sometimes though!
-
:welcome: to purrs. she is an absolute stunner with gorgeous markings. and im sure you will have a nick name for her as i think most of us do ourselves
-
Welcome ;D
I picked up my first cat a week last Thursday, she's called Chuckles. I did consider a renaming but the good ladies on here seemed to like the name and I wasn't sure if it would be unlucky - like renaming a boat. So Chuckles it is :Luv2:
That's one bonny looking kitty you've got there. I think skip is a cool name - sounds like a prawn cocktail snack :shify:
I must say this is one of the more friendly forums I've been a member of, glad I picked this forum to post on. Had loads of really good advice. Listen to these girls on this site, they know what they're talking about ;)
-
Welcome welcome and what a gorgeous lady you are getting to welcome into your new home!
Your right she does seem top pretty for skip but you might find it easier to change it so something similar as she will be familiar with it.
I've kept all my rescue cats babes .... Even one called Bertie which I hated for such a handsome boy! I drew the line at snowflake though who is now Rio :-)
Anyway skip is a very striking lady ... Bet you can't wait for the weekend :-)
-
:welcome: to Purrs!
Skip is just gorgeous :Luv: and I love the name too, I think it suits her. :) I wonder if she skips about - or did when she was a kitten?
-
We have decided a name for her! She is going to be called Lady Penelope! :)
-
You do realise she needs a companion with a name like that, don't you??

There must be a cute boy out there in need of a home called Parker.
-
Yeh lol! Blue cross said to us that she has to be the only cat :(
-
Awwww. Did they say why?
-
She lived with a cat before and they would eat next to each other but used to not like being by each other and hiss etc!
-
Ahhhh sometimes they just don't / won't get on proving that anyone who thinks they have no thoughts or feelings of their own is just plain wrong.
Is Saturday the big day?
-
Yeh hopefully Saturday or maybe Sunday! I keep dreaming about the cat being in the house lol
-
Tomorrow is the day! Eek so excited!
-
:waiting: :pic:
-
Fabulous! Hope it all goes well.
-
Here she is! She hid for about an hour but is now sitting on the sofa with me and my hubby :)
-
wow she settled in quick!!
-
I know! I can't believe it!! And she is such a fuss pot!!
-
Oh brilliant - happy she settled so quickly! Lady Penelope knows she is home :-)
-
Brilliant news and what a lovely picture.
-
Oh that is so great ;D
-
Blimey- she's so like our Munchkin! Same expression, same eyes, same ears, very similar markings, same shape, same ball-park in age...they could very easily be sister and brother. Whereabouts are you, Fallen? What's Skip's history? She doesn't have a connection with Reading (or similar part of the world) does she?
(Edited to say: have just shown OH the pics of Skip. We think the likeness is uncanny. Skip and Munchkin just have to be related (also noticed you're based in Oxfordshire so we're not far away). I'm really intrigued now ;D
-
Her last family lived in Oxford they had her since a kitten but when they moved Ouse the new landlord said they couldn't have any pets and that's how she ended up in the blue cross! Where can I see a pic of munchkin? Would be weird if they was from the same litter!
-
:welcome: home Lady P :wow: She's beautiful and that look on her face says 'Yep, I'm home' :naughty:
Would be amazing if you had found her long lost brother in Munchkin!
-
The night is going okay with her! She won't use the litter tray! And went on the floor even though we showed her numerous times where it was! Where is the best place to keep her litter tray?
-
Away from her food and water but in the same room she is.
Clean the area she used with biological washing stuff so she is not attracted back to the same place.
-
I have posted a few pics of the Munch but not for ages. We'll get some more done and post them and then we can compare and contrast. We don't know anything about our Munchkin's past- he was an unneutered stray causing trouble in the Caversham area of Reading (so on the Oxford side of town) who was eventually taken in by Thames Valley Animal Welfare and rehomed to us.
I really think there migh well be a genetic connection with Skip! Will get onto the pics as soon as...
:wow:

It's an upheaval for her so not surprising she has had a little accident  Was her accident a wee or poo? Are you using the same litter as she was used to in the rescue? Is the tray type the same eg open or hooded?
-
Right- am attempting to attach some pics of our Munchkin. We've tried to get him from the same angle as the pics of Skip as far as we could in the hope that it will make the resemlence as obvious as possible but hopefully it will at least give you the general idea ;)
-
Wow them two do certainly look alike
-
Omg theyre so alike how old is munch?
-
Hi Fallen,
We don't know for sure as he was a stray. They estimated 3-5 when we adopted him. If he was 3 (and we've always thought he was on the younger end of the estimate) he'd be 8 now (so the same age as Skip).
They really are alike aren't they? I can't help thinking it's more than a coincidence ;D
-
I love this and wonder if they are brother and sister ;D
-
I'm really excited about it! :wow:
It's quite possible. Skip isn't far away from us and they could easily have come from the same litter (Skip ending up in Oxford and the Munchkin on the Oxford side of Reading- where I suspect someone got fed up with him when he stopped being a kitten and booted him out :(). Everything tallies (their ages would be a fit) and they look so like each other. It's not just the superficial likeness in colouring, it's their expressions, and the way Skip is standing in the first picture of her- even the way Skip's fur grows is just like the Munchkin based on the pics. The jizz is just the same if that makes sense.
I really hope it's true! :Luv2:
-
:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
Skip is gorgeous!! (and my lot have told me how much Munch & her do look alike - and they're right!! :Luv2: :Luv2:
I think its hard to re-name them once they arrive named  my 2 rescues Peanut & Evie have kept thier names. However, i do use this term loosely. Peanut gets called Peanut-Da-Poirot, Peenew, Pleep, La Plep, Pep, Peep PeePee (+ the mandatory complimentaries, such as baby, babba etc)
Evie gets called Evie Von Squeaks, Evil Evie, Squeeks/Squeeky, Eeeves, Baby Girl, Babba, Mrs Floppa-doppolus (she just falls infront of you for cuddles lol) Lady Jane and bad days Evil b!tch
No matter what you choose, it'll be shortened, changed and amended to appropriate terms of affection lol
But I do like the name Cookie or Biscuit for her ;D ;D ;D shes a lil heartbreaker :Luv2:

How's Lady P/Skip getting on Fallen?
The Munchkin is very excited about his possible long lost sister. She really is the most gorgeous girl :Luv:
