Title: I think my cat has fleas, worried about her kittens
Post by: Carlyp on May 21, 2012, 22:58:42 PM
I just asked my DH to check our cat for fleas as I am seriously itching, and have little red lumps on me!

He brushed her with a flea comb and couldn't anything but wasn't too sure whether there were some eggs.

She has 2 kittens which are 6 days old.

He brushed one across the back and nothing appeared to be on it.

I know it can be quite serious if they do have fleas.

I'm not sure where she will have got them from as she hasn't been out in weeks.

Are we allowed to treat her? She is obviously feeding them.

Should we take them all to a vet? Would this disturb them too much?

Can we treat the house?

Thank you

Speak to your vet and he will be able to give you all the answers.

Frontline spray is safe for kittens more than 2 days old. However, you'll also need to spray the bedding with a household spray safe for kittens and nursing mothers. You'll need a vet prescription for the Frontline, and the very effective household sprays are only obtainable from vets. This will also give you an opportunity to chat about any other worries you may have re the mother and kittens.

I've just noticed how old your post is. I hope this is helpful to someone else. :-[
