We have a bowl of water in each room in the house and a water fountain in kitchen.

There are six "normal" cat residents all of whom are quite different ranging from Billy drinking lots (he prefers dry food) to Bob who I don't recall ever drinking from them  (he prefers wet food).

I too have heard that putting water near food discourages cats from drinking it.

Think Butter must find puddles and what ever other water he can find outside coz he certainly doesn't drink from the bowl I put down for him

Sky has a bowl of water upstairs, it needs replenishing fairly often, so someone is drinking it! There is also a water fountain in the lounge and Alf drinks from that quite a bit - even though he eats raw, bloody food.

Wet cat food has a high water content anyway Sonya, if you are adding water as well he is probably getting plenty especially if he doesn't eat much dry. As long as Butter has water down for if he needs it I wouldn't worry too much.

Crossposted, Susanne must have the world's only 'normal' cats, I don't think I have ever met one   .

I seem to have normal cats in that respect. They drink out of bowls in the kitchen   my rollator blocks access to one of them but that seems to have made it more attractive. They seem to like crouching under it to reach the water

Ive tried everything Andrew, he's just an okard little bu gg er  :evillaugh: i add water to his food cos he eats wetfood mainly anyway, biscuits are only eaten when he turns his nose up at his dinner  :innocent: and throughout the night

Gill we don't have an upstairs, we live in a bungalow, maybe i could put some water in the attic with the spiders and the bats, he'd probably like that

Hoolies have 5 bowls of water around the flat. Never had a problem with them not drinking it.

Don't put it near his foo, that might help.
Sounds like he just likes looking at himself

My Billy just goes to his bowl and drinks water whenever he wants. He has a bowl of water left there presently but our cold and hot water is not on presently . No idea why. Must be a water board matter. Was on last night . Lucky my hot cup kettle is filled up. There has been a lot of water board work around here last few months.

My cats have two water bowls in the kitchen that they rarely use, they prefer the fish pond waterfall, or puddles or water that collects in the various pots in the garden.

Pippa likes me to turn the tap on every time I go to the toilet, just to a fast drip, she laps it and then plays with it and licks her paw. Trouble used to do that as well, my ate Husband used to go nuts when he saw it as he said it would beggar the tap washers. Who cares, the cat likes it. :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I DONT KNOW LOL

MISA DRINKS AND PLAYS WITH WATER IN A MUG AND A CEREAL BOWL, STICKS HIS PAW IN AND THEY HAVE TO SIT ON TRAYS NOW COS HE DRENCHES THE CARPET.

COME DOWN TO AN EMPTY MUG, EVERYWHERE SOAKED COS HE CAN ONLY GET HIS TONGUE DOWN SO FAR IN A MUG.

SO ONE MUG BECAME TWO MUGS !!

HE IS DOING THE SAME AT LANGFORD!

I think i might have actually found a way to get Butter to drink water (it's only taken a year  :-[ ) the trick is to fill the washing up bowl so much so that he can see his reflection in it, then he sits there splashing it about - water goes everwhere  :naughty: - then he licks the water of his paw  ;D ;D or is it because he likes the plum coloured washing up bowl
