I've been told about a very friendly FIV+ cat who is currently in a vets practice recovering from a RTA. He has lost his tail and is recovering but it now seems that if his owner/a new owner can't be found, he will be PTS. I'm afraid I know of no other details - but if you think you can help (even if it's a hint of anywhere you know with a policy of PTS for FIV+ so that can be avoided too) please PM me and I will contact the woman who has told me about this. Thanks.

It might help if we knew who is going to cover vet bills up to this point. How friendly are the vets? Would they be prepared to write off some or all of the bill?
Often the problem is a rescue may have capacity but if puss comes with a hefty bill, it makes things very difficult. If 2 cats are in equal need and there's one place available, commonsense is you take the one that's going to cost less to make homable. Harsh, but thems the breaks. :tired:
Best of luck to the poor soul. :'(

Someone from Sheffield contacted me a few days ago asking about a FIV cat I have copy and pasted your message and passed it on. If I hear from her I will contact you.
-
PM sent. The lady in Sheffield is interested, obviously she will need some sort of vetting, please contact her xxxxxxxxxx. add sent to you.

Local to you A?
Hope your ad works out Ela :luck:

Local to you A?
Nope...Sheffield, so I can't really do anything other than pass messages...but I have emailed the person Ela has been in contact with and passed on the details of the person I have been in contact with...fingers crossed for this little one, it would be awful if he was nursed back to health from a car accident and then ended up being pts because there was no home for him :(
-
I dont think they would bother to nurse him back to health and spend money if they were going to pts?
Hope something comes up :(

Hope your ad works out Ela
I should have put e-mail address. ;D

Please keep your eye on the situation. I will be away from 10 Dec until 4 Jan but if no home can be found I will take him after then.

Fluffybunny, I know of a girl in the area who would prefer an indoor cat. Do you know what he's like in general? (ie when not under anaesthetic. Is he nervous?)
-
Thanks all - JackSpratt, I have sent you a pm with the contact details. I'm afraid I don't know a lot more than I posted - I'm just cross posting from a rabbit forum where a lady has posted this, the cat is at her vets. Thanks Ela - I will try and keep my hand in with what is happening with this little one.

Hello again! I've found out a few more details from the person who posted this originally elsewhere, she rang the vets today. I guess this also means that he is still there and looking at present.
Name: Tom
Age: approx 6/7 years
Location: Sheffield (at vets surgery)
Colour: Tabby semi long fur
Temperament: Lovely friendly boy. A lap cat
Castrated: Yes. This was done recently by the vets where he is staying
Background: Unknown. Brought into the vets as a possible road traffic accident. He has had his tail amputated and now has a stump left of about 1 1/2 inches
Future needs: Indoor cat only due to FIV virus
It is possible for the right home that they could help with transport providing it's not too far away (prob 35 mile radius) but they really need him to be rehomed by Christmas (perhaps the surgery is shut for a few days over that period).
-
Called the vets at the beginning of the week - Thomas is still looking. Can anyone help? The lady who answered said he is utterly lovely.
-
At least theres Elas offer as back up plan ;D
-
Awwww bless this little fella. xxxxx
-
Unfortunately that isn't necesarily a viable back up plan - the original post states he has until Christmas. The offer isn't until after then....unless someone can foster him for a short time over Christmas?
I've got my cousin posting signs up around work (she's a nurse) and family members asking around; hopefully we'll think of something.
-
Just called the surgery to get an update - no definite home found as yet (I say definite as an old school friend of mine contacted me for details and he lives in Sheffield) but the woman who answers the phone sounds enamoured with him! She says he tries to get downstairs to the surgery all the time and she has to bribe him with food to make her escape out the room!
-
Thanks so much for keeping up to date with what's going on with this little one, JackSpratt. I really hope that something can be sorted for him, he sounds adorable :Luv2:
-
Ring Bredhurst in Kent... or the main CP adoption centre at Hayward Heath, Both have good track records with FIVs... But obv neither are local.. but it may mean that.. Vets dont want lodgers at the vets over Christmas as staff have to come in and they have to pay them money!!
-
The thing is, Ela has offered Thomas a rescue place but not until AFTER Christmas. If we can find someone that is willing to care for him until January at least he can go into rescue care then.
-
Have been using my tagline on a "friends network" to update people about Thomas and today my old school friend posted this underneath:
"Hopefully ours! My partner is calling in this afternoon to pick up our Christmas Cat! xx"
;D Merry Christmas Thomas - I know you're going to be spoilt rotten!
-
:cheer: This is fantastic news, well done JS! :cheer:
-
great news!

Fantastic xxx

I definitely think it merits a dancing banana :yayyy: Thomas has been on my mind a lot.
-
Oh I am so pleased to hear this, that's great news. Thanks so much for all your work on helping this little one, JackSpratt! :wow:
-
:shy: I couldn't have not tried to find him somewhere. There's something about stories like Thomas' - a cat treated so badly by humans deserves a good ending.
-
"Thomas the Christmas Cat - he's adorable, we love him! He's like a little plump lynx! Thanks for sending the message round! xx ps probably end up taking loads of photos of him over Christmas and putting them on here! xxx"
Yeayyyyy! :birth 2: Feel like I can get properly excited about Christmas now. :)
