Just a quick fly by to say loving the new software Tan  and there is the most fabulous stuff this year

Is there and error when you try and edit "pictures" or you don't have the option to edit Pictures at the bottom of the listing?

New system definitely gets the thumbs up from me and I am sure it is far less work for you, I always thought of you all having to post the high bids every night    Once it hots up in the final few days and we are all putting cheeky comments in it will be just as fun and competitive as before.

  thats good then, at least I am not the only one. At work over the winter I am pretty much glorified security so stuck inside for the whole shift, can't leave the building and only have 1 hour if I am lucky when there is someone else to talk...talking to myself is pretty much what I do these days

I like the new software! It is so much easier, it means I can join in this year and not have to worry about staying up until the wee hours shuffling, bumping and adding up and doing the spreadsheet totals.

I have been commenting on all the items I have bid on, but not everyone is joining in. I am still having fun, even if it looks like I am talking to myself!

Tan, you and ChapTan have done an amazing job, and the big bonus is - as you rightly say - you dont have to stay up until the cows come home cutting and pasting totals in every night.  Anything new takes time to get used to (especially for some of us - like me -  ) but the changes on the whole are for the better.  I suspect in the run up to the auction end, bidding - and commenting - may speed up.  That we've beaten the halfway mark for last year has to be a good indicator.  Fingers crossed!

ERM  sorted - I was using the full size photo 2mb  - thought I had cut them down oops  - well there are three things added tonight rather than two.

yes it helps to make it easier to post an item  if the pics are under 350kb when ya an item 1st time. we have the same size limit on the upload pics for the forum so same there if they are oversized the forum will show an error screen. sadly we have to limit pic sizes or it would cost another £40 a month to increase the server size Purrs forum is run on.

Yer I know you can add them but as you say no one is bothering, I think it's cos they don't scroll down far enough on the page after placing a bid.

Sorry ya missing the comments bit hun. There are some great comments left and peeps been using the brill smiles we have for the auction
The different from the old way on the forum is you do have to scroll down just a bit more than ya used in the forum threads to see the comments.
sadly there was no way to be able to post an amount and comment together in the same box as we need to have the amount separate from any wording to make the auction work alot less.

Imagine in previous years with 300 items, to get a total we would have to go into to each thread (item) and copy and paste the total into a spread sheet. It takes ages to do just to get a total by going into each item.  At the end it takes 5 staff many hours just to get all the info who won , what amount, which auctioneer etc posted on each and then into the spreadsheet, then to adjust that spreadsheet in order of winner to add their totals up. and that's just on the closing night!

This system all that info is already there!  Everyone right at the end knows what they have won and already knows their total to pay automatically as soon as the auction closes.

So I am hoping that in favour of all the good things the new systems has ie the My bids section, The my listings section the automation of all the work, the pictures in the main page, the way you can sort the main page to whatever order you want, the way we have integrated it with the forum so you can see from your unread posts what new items have been posted etc that these may outweigh the part of having to scroll down a bit more to see the comments. 

I am also hoping with all my heart is will raise at least £1500 for the needy cats.

Just noticed that when you have more that one bid and your are winning it gives you a grand total - how fab - Mr Tan has done a fabby job xx

Auctions are games of psychology and for me this is too clean and clinical I am afraid.

Also the fun has gone for me but easy to be critical and Tan has improved this system so much since its inception and it will probably get more and more tailored as time progresses.

I may be in the minority in what I like to see, and how I like it to run but there are three bottom lines, will it make money and will it hold peoples interest for two weeks, the third one is a no brainer it has taken away all the massive manual effort that overwhelmed the manual system.

However and I don't know if this will change next year is that Tan now seems to be running this solo and that is a lot of work.

Sorry ya still not keen on the new system Gilly, we tried our hardest to make it so the work for it was easier and as much like posting the bids like the old way (in the forum) as much as possible.

I am hoping it will make money and I am hoping it will hold interest for the two weeks. There is so many lovely things up for grabs and at the end of the day it's for the needy cats 

We have already hit a total that is higher than the same time last Year so may that continue 

The system is so easy and automated that it easy to run by one person   Once all the items are up it runs it's self. with me keeping an eye out for any foibles. It is a new system so there are bound to be some bits we discover are not quite right or we can improve.

Not sure what I did, Tan, but I posted the Halo scanner before I had a photo ready and when I edited to add the photo it reposted the whole thing again. 

Could you delete the pants one for me please Hun?   

So ya posted a item with no pic, then went back into "edit picture" and added the image and hit save it duplicated the whole item?
Hmm not seen that one but will have a go at reproducing that situation with my next item.

Appreciate any things like this to be posted in here.

I can edit in a sec and it's no trouble what so ever as it's very easy to edit or delete a duplicated / wrong item posted so any things that need adjusting either post in here or pm me.

I don't know how Souffle has done it (doesn't happen to others with click to see more, but when you click to see more on her items you get big pictures - may offer a simple solution?

Yes that could be solution for this auction if we can't bring in the "bigger on click" option due to the update while the auction is running.  That bit involves alot of files to change.

What Souffle has done is include a URL link from her photobucket account at the end of the details.  This is good if there is at least 8 lines of writing before it so the big pic doesn't appear at the top but in the "more details" part under the comments.
If there is less than 8 lines of text before the url pic link then the pic will appear at the top and push the comments section down the page. 

I will do that for all mine i put up from now on.
 
Why we made the pic smaller is so the comment section isn't so far away ie we tried to fit as much at the top in a smaller space as poss so the comments weren't so far down the page so it was simular to the normal forum threads where you scroll down to see the different comment posts.
