lol - I did indeed Trigger!! He assured me that it wasn't necessary and also that he didn't want a reward even though it had been offered.

Think I will still pop round with a bottle of wine as a thank you, though  :)

Great news!! Eccles strolled back into the house this lunchtime, 4 days after going missing! He looked a bit thin and was very hungry but otherwise fit and healthy. 30 mins later I received a phone call from a gentleman at the end of our road asking whether Eccles had returned. He said he'd been working in his shed on Tuesday but then had gone away for a few days. When he got back this morning, he found our leaflet and thought he'd better check. Sure enough, Eccles was there curled up on a pile of blankets!

It really goes to show how worthwhile the leaflet drop was. Part of me had assumed that if he wasn't back by now, then it was because he had been run over, so I'm REALLY glad that I read through all the stories on here and decided to do the leaflets / posters etc - otherwise he might still be sitting in the shed!!

This forum is marvellous - it was just what I needed at a very bleak time - and your support and friendship was lovely.... Thank you all!!

Eccles looks to be all black except for white bib, and no white on his face

that might help to eliminate any false sightings

I do hope he turns up soon - the uncertainty must be so wearing

Thanks all for such lovely warm welcomes  :) It really helps at the moment because my partner is away so this has all felt rather lonely and grim...

I've spent the day making fliers, adding Eccles to more websites, getting announcements on the local radio etc. Later I went door to door dropping off leaflets in the nearby streets and speaking to as many people as I could. The trouble, as they all mentioned, is that there are several black and white cats in the neighbourhood, so whilst they had all seen cats today - no one could be sure whether it was Eccles.

It's helped to keep busy and feel like I'm actually doing something, but I keep finding myself browsing through 'lost and found' sites reading all the success stories! I'm not sure whether that helps or just raises false hope - although I dearly want to believe he will come padding back in through the back door, I think part of me is also trying to accept that maybe he has had a fatal accident. It's a strange mixture of hope and grief.

I've made a list of all the places I could put up posters - so that's tomorrow's task.

Sorry to welcome you under such worrying circumstances, I know it must feel like an absolute age but there are so many stories of cats returning of their own free will or being found elsewhere after weeks, months and even years so please don't give up hope

Eccles is gorgeous  :Luv2:

Male black & white dsh in Doncaster - now FOUND!!
« Reply #1 on: November 12, 2009, 19:46:46 PM »
Dear All,

2 days ago, our much loved 1 year old male Eccles disappeared. He had been out playing in the garden with our 8 month old kittens, and even though they came in for their tea - there was no sign of him, and hasn't been since.

This is really out of character for him as he's not a great roamer - he did disappear overnight once when he was younger but we found him hiding in a bush - think he'd got himself lost! A few months ago, he took on the proud role of "mum" to two kittens who were part of a feral rescue, and has done a great job of bringing them up and teaching them all sorts of important 'cat things'! This makes his disappearance all the more worrying - he goes everywhere with them even though they are now almost as big as him, and we can't imagine that he would chose to be separated from them for this long.

He wasn't wearing a collar when he disappeared as he has become a dab hand at working out how to undo them - but he is micro-chipped and neutered.

I've called the local vets, and the council who haven't had any injured or dead cats reported that fit his description. I've wandered round the locality checking the roadsides and bushes and calling him all with no luck. He's registered with a locator service as part of his ID chip - so they have put out a lost pet alert to all the local services for him and are sending us some posters. I'm making up some leaflets to put through doors now...

We've had several cats over the years - they're all special, but I have a particularly special bond with Eccles, and just feel devastated by his disappearance. I just want to  know what's happened to him - even if it's bad news so that we can get some closure. I'm trying so hard not to give up hope - but 2 days seem such a long time for such an affectionate homebody.

Thanks all for reading this. x
