Andrew

so sorry to hear about Charlie, there are no words to ease your pain, but im sure he appreciated everything you did for him and all the love which you gave him. im sure the songs were a sign to you from him to let you know he got to the bridge ok, he will be playing happily and not in pain now and will wait until you are re-united once again.

The pain will get easier and you will be able to remember all the good and funny time he made you smile xx

So very sorry to hear about Charlie, he was very lucky to have had you .
It doesn't matter how long they are with us - it doesn''t make the loss any easier .
There isn''t anything to say that will help right now .
RIP Charlie you were greatly loved.

Andrew

Your story is very sad yet uplifting. I cannot say anything to make you feel any better. I lost my Monty not too long ago, and I know nothing anyone says can make it feel and better. All I can say is that for the short time you had Charlie, he was quite clearly one very loved cat. That is very important to remember, you both made each others' lives that much better. RIP Charlie, and may time heal your pain my friend. My thoughts are with you.

Andrew,
A massive  to you.

I know the heartache you're feeling and it can be unbearable at times but I'm sure having Baxter with you is a comfort. You did everything possible for Charlie and gave him so much love and care whilst he was with you.
I hope the pain you feel starts to ease soon.

RIP Charlie x

I've tried answering this thread before, but there just aren't the right words.

Andrew, I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Charlie was loved unconditionally and that is a rare achievement.

I hope both you and Baxter are coping.

RIP, Charlie.

Sweet Charlie, he was truly a special boy who loved his tummy rubs... I am glad he found the love and happiness he deserved so much with you.  Try not to be too sad, he is now free from suffering and playing with all the wonderful friends up over the rainbow bridge.  And he is now an angel for you and Baxter, who will always be somewhere near you, even if you don't see him.

Oh Andrew what can I say to you?  Your videos of Charlie and Baxter are so beautiful, they made me cry.  You might not have had your Charlie for as long as you liked but he certainly looks so happy and loved.  He obviously loves you too and that love will continue forever.  Big hug to you and special headbutt to you from my Charlie.  God Bless.

Very sorry to hear about Charlie  :'(
You gave him every thing you could

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Hi Andrew, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. What a brave and difficult battle little Charlie had, but you were always there for him throughout to give him so much love. I think you become even closer to your furry friends when they are unwell and love them and bond with them ever more and more. I hope that you can draw a bit of comfort from your memories and the photos and videos you have of him in happier times. Baxter will probably take a while but he has you to love him and care for him. Look after yourself too.

Hi Andrew

I honestly can't read your story as I am still grieving over the death of my Smudge but I just wanted to let you know that people on here are fantastic.  They are 100% better than friends and family. We all understand because we all love and adore our cats and some of us have the enemy!!!  dogs!!!  Only joking as I love dogs too.

Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh Andrew,

It is with deep sadness that I have read the news on dear little Charlie.  I'm so sorry.

I know you loved him with all your heart and it is so painful to hear that the little chap has passed on.  He had all that surgery too....it's just not fair! I remember talking to you about him only a few months ago.

God bless you Charlie.  Watch over your dad from above as he watched over you when you were here. R.I.P. darling.

Andrew: Charlie is in a beautiful place now where he will never experience pain again...only love...and you will see him again one day, I'm certain of it.

Thinking of you and Baxter.

I am so so sorry to read about Charlie  :'(

If you are hurting half as much as I did when loosing Beau & Zak then you are cut deep. Time does heal but there is always a scar, and it does open at times. but remember the good times - the naughty times and most of all the snuggly times.

Charlie is in you heart and mind forever and he will never go away. Remember you was the lucky one to of been his slave, he chose you - you didnt choose him.

RIP Charlie - have fun and play hard on the bridge till Daddy comes to collect you. Night Night little Fella xxxxxxxxx

RIP Charlie, send your human a sign that you have arrived on the Bridge safely, play hard little man.

Gill...

There was a kind of sign... On my way to the crematorium, the radio played two of my favourite songs..

Last week, I feel really really down and I asked myself and asked whoever is above there -- will I see Charlie again and how he is.
Then on that night, three friends whom I never talked to for weeks, sent me links of 'Christian the Lion'... I used to call Charlie little lion..

Andrew I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Charlie ... he was a beautiful boy and obviously a much loved member of your family.  Please accept my sincere condolences.

I'm sure Baxter is still missing his friend but the fact that he was able to see Charlie after he had passed and was able to give him one last wash will help him to understand he friend has sadly gone.

Although Charlie had his "problems" he had a good life and was lucky to have have had such a caring and loving owner.

RIP Charlie ... Play hard at the bridge little man.  Much loved and sorely missed.

Charlie is gone
« Reply #1 on: July 31, 2008, 13:23:27 PM »

It is with great sadness and with great difficulty that I write you to let you know Charlie left this world on the 1st of July. I was not able to write anything until now. Even now that I'm writing it, I'm having much tears.

In Oct 2006, my ex wanted cats and I wanted a dog. She saw two cats in a local RSPCA rescue and we got them back. Charlie was constipated the first day he arrived and one week later, he was diagnosed megacolon and had a manual evacuation. Since then, I had managed his condition daily. Sometimes he was incontinent due to the various laxatives my vets gave us but I always made sure he felt accepted and I just put throws over the house and carpet and clean it.
Since Charlie started to show symptoms of constipation, my ex girlfriend was not very kind to him. A few times she threw Charlie away from her laps. In mid 2007, I had to leave her.

In 2007, Charlie had a very good time with me. He had complete trust in me. In that whole year, he was probably unwell for 3 days.

In Jan this year, he was diagnosed hyperthyroidism. I also took him to specialist centres for check up three times... The medical management for his constipation became refractory in Feb. I consulted several specialists, including feline specialists, both in the UK and in the US... We decided to have the surgery done in late April. Since then, he had deteriorated gradually. He also developed recurring constipation after a subtotal colectomy. He was back to the hospital twice after his surgery and the hospital was three hours away.

In June, he started to feel uncomfortable and he also had diarrhoea. He didn't have any appetite. He was diagnosed cholangiohepatitis, pancreatitis and IBD. After a few chats with other specialists, including our surgeon, other professors in the US, my college tutor Herrtage and feline specialists, I decided to take him back from ER and put him down. I was completely shocked as that was my first euthanasia..

I've never felt so painful in my life, despite some family members' passings. I've also never felt so close to any other animals, including my two previous beloved German Shepherd and Labrador. And this is my first time having cats and I must admit I am quite traumatised. I cannot believe the rescue did not even know he had problem defaecating and they were in the rescue for 5 months. I made me very bad that these oriental breeds crave for human contact and attention and I don't think they got much in the rescue.

It is not fair at all. Their previous owner had the chance to spend 8 years with them and I've only got 20 months and Charlie was not that well. But I know from my heart, I gave them everything I can. I'm now even 20k in debt due to weekly vet check on bowel, surgery etc.

But I know Charlie loved me very much and that he was grateful for my acceptances and care of his condition. He also had a very happy time in 2006 and 2007 and three months in 2008. I love him very much.

I had him individually cremated and I miss him very much.

Baxter had a difficult time too.. He went to Charlie and groomed him 20 seconds after his death. Then Baxter made a very long sigh and he was looking at Charlie and then he looked at the floor. He spent three days eating nothing.. He then started to eat. But he was very sad until last weekend. He still has that sadness from time to time but he is doing okay. I'm lucky to have the chance to take care of Baxter for Charlie.

I made three youtube video clips of charlie and Baxter two days ago. Sorry the quality isn't that good. But it gives you a glimpse of what they were like..

I received great support in this group from Teresa, Wizz Cat etc.. And I'm sorry that due to daily management, I was not able to come to this forum as I only wanted to spend more time with Charlie.

Rest in peace, Charlie.
