Title: Working full time - how to feed and keep my kitten happy?
Post by: kittykat on January 07, 2007, 19:17:39 PM
I work 9-5 three days a week so our new kitty will be alone during those hours 3 days a week.

I read your supposed to feed kittens 4 times a day.  I'm a bit worried how we'll manage this on the three days i'm working.  If i fed her once before work and twice in the evening, and then left dried food down all day.....would this be enough?

Also any advice on how to keep her content and happy whilst i'm at work during the day?

thank you! x

I always leave food down all day for kittens so they can eat as and when they want. If you want to feed wet food as well then you could give a wet meal in the morning before work and one when you get home and then leave dry food down all day.

Is she an only kitty?  When Jaffa was a kitten I just left dry kitten food down during the day for him and his brother, Magpie.  I then gave them some wet food at teatime.  She will be fine with dry food being left down.  Alternatively you could leave food in automatic feeders (an option if you want to leave wet for her)

Cat's, unlike dogs, tend not to overeat so you can leave food out all day and they can nibble as and when they want to .  You'll probably find that the minute you go out the house your little one will go to bed and sleep until you get back home anyway :)

Make sure you also leave a bowl of clean water for her to drink and also litter trays  ;D

How old is she?

I'd leave 2 bowls of water and make sure they're the hard-to-knock-over sort, and 2 litter trays also just in case she's one of those little princesses that won't use a dirtied litter tray

She should be fine if you leave her with lots of biscuits to munch, maybe the radio on low so it doesn't get quiet and something for her to snuggle up to... maybe a teddy or a jumper of yours or similar.
