Yippeee Lana is part of the NO TAIL gang.  ROFL Luv 2 Hug

Bonnie's fur hangs over her little stump - so cute, a bit like a bunny rabbit.

Glad she's doing so well.

Lana had her op on Wednesday this week - all went well,  Liz expected everything to be shaved round the area - but its not and her fur just sort of drapes over  smile When Liz phoned me, she'd only had Lana home about an hour - and she was bouncing off the walls - well, the bars of her cage anyway - still high!  Wink Apparently, the bones in her pelvis have pretty much healed already, so quick! but then she's only 9 months old, young bones heal quicker don't they?

Thanks  thanks Havent heard anything yet, not sure now whether the op was actually going to be today, Liz said she'd got to take her in today - so don't know if that was to check over and make the decision - or the actual op itself.

The bonus of not having a tail is clumsy humans won't tread on it and she will have a bit less grooming to do  smile

When Ellis got run over, his back was damaged and his tail was dead.  When it was removed, his not very good hind leg seems to have taken over the action of the tail!  His right hind doesn't move properly - sadly I think damage to that will mean he won't have a long life Sad - so it makes quite a good tail really.

It's been over 5 years since he got run over and, touch wood, he has been fine without a tail.

Pinball's breeder had a kitten several years ago who got gangrene in his tail as a young baby and had to have it amputated and Peanut is now a lovely big healthy and happy boy who can do everything any other NFC can do (apart from acting as a duster!) Grin

Gillian please give Liz my best wishes and tell her Lana will be ok.

When I got Bonnie from the RSPCA she was 10 and had just had her tail removed and I was so frightened that she wouldn't be able to balance and jump around but she has no problems what so ever and as I said in previous post show her my photo of Bonnie looking so cute with her little bobble of a tail.

Mary  Hug

Thanks  thanks - yes, Liz was worried that Lana wouldnt be able to jump and balance - but I told her about your Bonnie and she was a bit more reassured.

She wasnt very good in the cage to start with and cried and cried, but did settle down after a few days. Unfortunately she got an infection too, but is recovering from that now too.

Aw, that's sad about her tail but good news she can pee and poo at least.  She'll cope without a tail OK, of course, and won't know that she's lost something so beautiful!  But I have to admit having a tailless cat takes a bit of getting used to Wink

It's good that she's OK otherwise though - hope the cage rest goes smoothly.

Well little Lana is home and doing ok, but just had a message from Liz today to say sadly, Lana's tail will have to be removed  Sad . So she's having the op next Tuesday. Such a shame that lovely, bushy NFC tail will have to come off.  Sad

Success! She's been able to do both wee and poo on her own   Yayyy - she is ready to come home, either tomorrow or Saturday. I'm taking a large cage over there tomorrow, which unfortunately is going to take up most of Liz's lounge  Evil Laugh . Not sure how long she'll have to have cage rest - I havent had any experience with cats having to be confined like that - no doubt the vet will be able to give her an idea when she goes in to collect her.

Poor girl, hope cage rest is all she needs so she can keep her beautiful tail  Sad

Its very difficult to keep a cat indoors if it makes them unhappy

It is but isnt it more irresponsible to let a cat out right near a known risk? My friend has 2 dodgy dogs next door, she knows that but still let her BSH and kitten out,a couple of weeks in to his new found freedom the kitten is grabbed by the dogs and shaken around, fortunately the incident was spotted and he lives but one week later hes back out in the garden.  Sad Angry
No doubt everyone agrees thats mad but i cant see a road is any different?

Poor Lana.  I've got a cat who was hit by a car and lost his tail - like Lana he couldn't wee/poo on his own for a while but he did eventually.  Unfortunately he has back damage so goes wherever and whenever   Censored  But we love him!  Hopefully once Lana gets over the bruising she'll be able to go OK.

Amazing thing is, the night it happened, Lana got herself back home and in through the catflap - which would have meant having to climb the fence back into Liz's garden.

Thanks all  thanks (and Lana's mum Liz, says thank you for the vibes too!)

Lana is still at the vets. The pelvis itself isnt fractured, but there are small fractures within it, if you see what I mean? which the vet believes arent serious and will heal on their own, so thats better news. However, the base of her tail is broken and she still hasnt been able to wee and poo on her own yet, so I guess she will be staying in so they can monitor that. Not sure when they make the decision on whether to amputate her tail, but should know more tomorrow. Liz went to see her today and Lana managed a purr or two, apparently Theo is wandering around at home like a lost soul, bless him.

Amazing thing is, the night it happened, Lana got herself back home and in through the catflap - which would have meant having to climb the fence back into Liz's garden.

and that she is kept away from roads in future  Sad

Its quite a worry that road - when my friend first moved there it wasnt a through road, but recently it has become one. Her previous cats were both elderly and she had them when they were already older cats - so they never went anywhere, just to the patio and back! but Lana and Theo, only about 10 months old or so - they go over the fence in her back garden and get themselves round to the front.

Little Lana got hit by a car on Monday, she's still at the vet apparently. I havent been able to talk to my friend yet, but she left me a message to say Lana has a fractured pelvis and there's likely some nerve damage and she may have to have her tail amputated. My friend was waiting to hear back from the vet about whether Lana can come home at the weekend, and if so she'll have to have cage rest. I've phoned and left a message but no update yet.  Sad
