Some ferals are lucky - Miss Cissy from the Clan Cats have now been a member for nrarly 4 months and after nearly 14 years out in all wathers I now have my own fluffy blankie in what used to be an In tray - now its Cissys and a blankie on top of the printer - again my printer, radiator beds, food on demand and lots of treats my previous carer made a phonecall to my forever Mum and we all rfelocated to the homestead of the Clan Cats now I am safe and warm and wanted and have my own place

Just got to find out what a vets visit is!

Ferals can and do adapt to home life but some are not for the feinthearted!

I am mightily relieved, just got home after trapping the last female and no offers of another courgette

oooh do you think there is a chance with her?

We have no choice but to tame and domesticate them, the old man will only take the mothers back and these little ones deserve better than a feral life.

Just to add some ferals lead a wonderful life, but generally farm type enviroments in this area are not good.

although I know really the doors at pawsinn are closed

I might say they are but in truth there is always a welcome for the really needy ones.

This morning has been eventful despite Sugarplum lunging at me and howling like a banshee inbetween hissing and spitting I managed to get to her litter mate and stroked for almost 10 minutes in 3 short bursts, I even got to have a little feel and as expected he is a boy so he will be Figaro. The second Pen managed to tentatively tickle gingers back end before being forced to retreat  Note to self must try harder next time.
The tiny kitten is a real sweetie and we have him lapping with a little help from my trusty Apostle spoon.

A savage and beautiful little family, Teresa.  If you have Sugar Plum Fairy, perhaps you should name them all after opera characters?

The other little female Coppelia and the lads Pier Gynt and Figaro?

Hope they soon start to appreciate the benefits of regular food and veterinary treatment  ;)

 to Claire and to you.

Christine Sugar Plum Fairies is my strongest swear word nothing to do with Opera, but I can live with Figaro and Coppelia, def not Pier Gynt and def not  Pedro`s suggested Corny toes

sugar plum fairy is lovely! :Luv: She is only scared and trying to pretend she is a lot braver than she is... She will respond to the love and care that she gets, I know.

I know exactly what you are saying, but of course it does not only happening in the case of ferals and garden cats. I know on the first morning we have a frost I will receive a dozen calls from people who say. Well me ducks I have been feeding a cat all summer but now it is getting cold, when can you come and get it? Of course I have to reply if only you had contacted us when you first saw the cat, quite possibly it would have either found its owner or most certainly be in care by now or even found a new home. As it is it will now have to go on the list of cats waiting to come in.

When they are left too long
« Reply #1 on: August 24, 2008, 17:29:03 PM »
Getting to the time of year when people have enjoyed watching ferals play in their garden all summer and suddenly decide they need to be rescued before winter. Yesterday Claire and I were called out to what seemed to be mum and young babies, turns out there are 3 adult females,1 entire tom who had an attraction for the trap despite a double eviction and the 4 kittens at least 14/15 weeks old; we caught the kittens and their mum but have to go back for the others tomorrow, also a possibility that one of the others has tiny kittens hidden.
For the first time ever I heard Claire swear when the one kitten lunged at us,in truth in 20 years I have only come across one feistier one and that was an adult tom. I told Claire the kittens name was to be Sugar Plum Fairy as that is the strongest swear word I use and it means the same as the word she used.
Sugar Plum attacks non stop and 24 hours of negotiations and good food have done nothing to calm her temper;her 3 siblings are going to take some hard work too;not even sexed them yet though I suspect that we have 2 girls and 2 boys. If only people would ring in earlier.
